My Review of the American Express Amazon Business Card

American Express: What Is It?

Well known in North America, American Express is a company that is less common in France, where the use of credit cards is less frequent. American Express provides credit cards to consumers.

It’s important to note that American Express is not a bank, so you can’t transfer funds with them. The concept is simple: in your daily life, you use your Amex card for purchases, and American Express grants you credit (interest-free). Once a month, Amex debits your bank account for the total amount of your spending over the past 30 days.

Several benefits are offered when using an Amex card:

  • A 30-day payment deferral, useful for managing your budget
  • A cashback program
  • Frequent promotional offers
  • Insurance policies

Who Accepts the American Express Card?

Unfortunately, Amex card acceptance is not universal. However, its popularity is constantly growing. Thus, you can use it at a large number of points of sale, whether physical or online.

For online transactions, a practical tip is to link your American Express card to your PayPal account. This way, you can pay with your Amex via PayPal, even on sites that don’t directly accept this card.

The Amazon Business Amex Card

Even though it’s not the card with the most benefits, the Amazon Business American Express card is simply the cheapest for business customers.

It’s 100% free the first year, and costs €50 per year in subsequent years.

It allows you to benefit from:

  • A payment deferral
  • Cashback
  • Insurance
  • Special offers

Cashback and Payment Deferral

The Amex Amazon card offers different cashback depending on whether it’s an Amazon purchase or a purchase on another site.

For Amazon purchases, you must choose between:

  • 0.75% cashback
  • A payment deferral of up to 118 days

For “non-Amazon” purchases, you benefit from both:

  • 0.5% cashback (the same cashback as the Platinum card, which costs 10 times more!)
  • Up to 58 days of payment deferral

Cashback comes in the form of points that you can use as an Amazon gift voucher or as a reimbursement for an expense (via the Amex app).

Insurance

The insurance coverage is really minimalist compared to other more expensive cards. You simply get purchase protection up to €6,000 per year; I haven’t looked into the details.

Regular Offers

Like other Amex cards, you can occasionally benefit from special offers.

In this example, for instance, you can get €50 back for every €500 spent at IKEA. That still represents 10% cashback!

My opinion

The Amazon Business American Express card is a fairly minimalist card that doesn’t offer many benefits.

However, it is very cheap and offers both cashback and a payment deferral, very handy for cash flow management.

So there’s no reason to do without it!
