[Review] Foreo Luna Mini 3: For Clean and Smooth Skin

After several months in Asia, my skin is severely congested (thanks to pollution and sweat!), and I have to face the facts: I need a device to wash my face, my hands are not enough.

This isn’t the first time I’ve used a facial cleansing device. I had a Clarisonic, then several Foreo Luna Play Plus which gave up the ghost after a year because the battery compartment wasn’t waterproof enough.

I need a device with a waterproof USB port, not a battery: I opted for the Foreo Luna Mini 3, a fairly simple cleansing device.

Compact and easy to carry, LUNA Mini 3 is designed to give you instantly fresh and radiant skin. Its gentle yet powerful T-Sonic massage works with ultra-hygienic silicone bristles to remove 99.5%* of impurities and prevent blemishes for clean, luminous skin, perfectly prepared to absorb your skincare products. With a brand new Glow Boost mode, a larger cleansing surface, and synchronization with an app, this mini brush is fully customizable with 12 adjustable intensities. !

There are a multitude of colors, and I chose yellow, like the sun 😀 Compared to the Luna Mini 2, the Luna Mini 3 is rounder and cuter.

You can find it for 150€ on Amazon (link), 144$ on Foreo’s official website (link), and 165€ at Sephora (link). Veepee often has deals; click here to get a 10€ discount through my referral

As usual, the packaging is flawless; it’s quality. The Swedish brand really knows how to seduce us with trendy colors and sturdy packaging.

And here’s the beast: this side is for normal skin or less sensitive areas of the face.

The other side has thicker bristles; it’s for sensitive skin or particularly sensitive areas. This is the part I’ll use if you have active acne or irritated skin. You can see there’s a small hole for plugging in the USB cable. You might think it’s not waterproof, but it is! I have the exact same port on my Foreo UFO 2 and my device is 100% waterproof; it’s magic!

It’s clearly twice the size of my old FOREO Luna Play Plus, but I find the size perfectly acceptable for travel / round-the-world trips. However, it only comes with a fabric pouch, so I have no way to protect it from accidental activation at the bottom of my bag (even though the button is recessed to prevent such accidents), so for now, I keep it in its plastic case when traveling.

You can press the button and cleanse your face right away, but I highly recommend downloading the FOREO app for advanced settings.

FOREO app

Follow the on-screen instructions carefully and you’ll reach this screen, the most important one for me—where you set the cleansing time per zone + the intensity for each zone.

For daily use, the Foreo Mini 3 offers intensities up to 12. Personally, I find intensity 8 is sufficient for areas where my skin is thicker (like the forehead and jawline), but since my skin is a bit fragile on my cheeks right now (hormonal acne), I only use intensity 6. Don’t hesitate to vary the intensities and test by clicking “try now.” I find that to properly cleanse the face after a long day, you need to wash your face for at least 60 seconds (in total).

There is a dedicated section for the GLOW mode : GLOW mode is for lazy people who want a quick but intense cleanse. The cleanse only lasts 30 seconds but the intensity can go up to level 16. Before, you could fine-tune the GLOW mode, but apparently it was too complicated for users, so now you only have 3 choices:

  • low
  • average
  • high

Personally, medium works well for me, in my opinion it corresponds to an intensity of 10 or 12 because it really goes strong. Apparently, among all the Mini devices, only the Mini 3 has this feature.

How does it work?

It’s very simple: once you’ve set everything up on your phone, you won’t need to touch your phone again afterwards.

  • For a normal cleanse: just press the button once to start the device. Each time you need to move to a new area, the device pauses briefly. The cleaning order is: forehead, left cheek, right cheek, jawline.
  • If you want to use GLOW mode, then press the button twice. Each time you need to move to a new area, the device pauses briefly. The cleaning order is: forehead, left cheek, right cheek, jawline. GLOW mode lasts only 30 seconds.

My opinion

I see a clear difference in the skin’s texture before/after cleansing with the Foreo Mini 3. My skin feels immediately smoother afterwards.

I told you my skin was very congested this summer, and the sebaceous filaments on my nose were gone after 3 days. A few microcysts that were dormant deep down came to the surface on the first day, and by the second day they turned into whiteheads (very easy to get rid of without leaving marks). My skin is smooth again.

So if your skin is even more congested than mine, you might experience a small “purge” at the beginning. The vibrations clean deep and bring up a few impurities, but they’ll be gone quickly, trust me!

Attention, I only use it in the evening, once a day. In the morning, I just wash my face with water (no cleanser and no device) as I already explained here.

If you have active acne, the soft bristles on the other side of the device might suit you better, I think.

The device is made of medical-grade silicone, so it’s very hygienic and easy to clean with soap. No worries there. The battery lasts forever with FOREO, I don’t know how they do it. You’ll want to keep the cable safe because you charge it so rarely that you might forget where you put it 😀 and it’s not a standard cable, so really make sure to keep it!

In short, the device does exactly what I ask of it:

  • deeply clean skin
  • smooth skin
  • without damaging my skin
