Miami Beach (USA): Travel Diary, Part 1

Oyé oyé, it’s with an excellent mood that I start this travel diary on Miami Beach! I am in a good mood because unlike Canada, I don’t have to go to the dentist anymore, and when you are in a vacation place, sun, relax, fiesta like Miami Beach, with this blazing sun and this blue sky, it is impossible to get depressed. So Miami is a city big enough that you can’t do everything on foot. There are two parts Miami mainland and Miami Beach which is an island city, connected to mainland Miami via bridges. Therefore, it is by staying in Miami Beach that you have better access to…

Everglades (USA): meeting alligators on an airboat

It is impossible to go to Miami without spending at least half a day in the Everglades. This is the must-see excursion in the area. Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary I warn you, the place is very touristic and the organization is industrial. A car will pick us up around 9:30 am to take us to the center of Miami. We are transferred in a double-decker bus to go to one of the many places from where the boats called “air boats” leave, with two enormous propellers at the back. We have been warned of the Floridian “ferocious mosquitoes”, which spare no one, and…

Days 6 & 7 in New York (USA): High Line, Elevated Acre, Wall Street, Statue of Liberty…

Day 6 : Today, we still get up late – because of the heat and fatigue accumulated over the last few days (cf. days 1&2, day 3, days 4 & 5). We start the day by buying one of the best Vietnamese sandwiches in New York at Sau Voi. Even the baguette is crispy, and it’s cheap (if I remember correctly 6$). It’s also the place where I can find my favorite Vietnamese snack: nem chua. They sell a lot of other Vietnamese specialties. Very good address in China Town. With our sandwiches, we head to the Financial District in search ofElevated Acre, a haven of peace between two skyscrapers,…

Days 4 & 5 in New York (USA): locations for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Gossip Girl, Sex in the City…

That’s it, after only a few days (cf. days 1&2, day 3), I got a little sick because of the air conditioning. Everything we did in two days below can be grouped in one day (for healthy tourists). The first time we set foot in NYC in 2015, every 10 minutes, we said “ohhh it’s like in the movies”. From the yellow cab to the skyscrapers, the subway, the places, the people… it’s so familiar but strange at the same time. It’s like going to a place you’ve always known – without having been there. My vision of New York has been long influenced by watching very girly series like…

Day 3 in New York (USA): One World Observatory, Memorial 9/11 and Brooklyn

To reread the 1st part of our trip to NYC, it’s this way Today we went to One World Observatory, the observatory of the One World Trade Center skyscraper, built next to the former Twin Towers and inaugurated in 2014. I realize, by looking at the pictures that this tower is “camouflaged” but in reality we can see it very well and not confuse it for the sky 😀 Right next to it is a shopping center (with the white fish-bone shaped tips) called the World Trade Center. The two Twin Towers locations became two giant fountains/ditches: “north pool” and “south pool”, where the names of all the victims are…

Days 1 & 2 in New York City (USA): Times Square, Katz’s Delicatessen, NYC Library, Shopping

Our stay in the United States continues with a week’s vacation in New York City. A real vacation, without working, to fully enjoy this beautiful city of a thousand facets. We have to take a bus(Flixbus) between Washington DC and NYC, but the bus is 45 minutes late. Add to that the traffic in NYC and we arrived 2 hours late compared to the scheduled time. Fortunately our Airbnb hostess was able to wait for us during all this time there. Our room looks like a large closet. We share the bathroom with the owner. Everything has its place because it’s so small. I think the whole apartment (including the…

We spent the 4th of July in Washington (USA) – Travel Diary

After 2.5 months in Canada that lasted an eternity (not fun when you just go to the dentist), here we are in the United States. First stop: Washington DC (which we will call Washington for short in the article) 😉 After spending Canaday Day (July 1) in Ottawa, we would like to travel to the United States to experienceIndependence Day (July 4) in Washington. We were warned about US immigration which can be very fussy but in the end everything went well (I will tell you in detail in another article). Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Chinatown Our hotel(Pod Hotel, Booking link) is rather…

A day in Ottawa (Canada): Canada Day, Canadian National Day, July 1st

From Montreal, we take the bus to Ottawa, where we spend CanadaDay. Everyone tells us that this city isn’t as beautiful as the others in Quebec, it’s true, but spending a day in Ottawa, on July 1st, is highly recommended. We start with one of the most visited places: the National War Memorial. It is here that we are in the full tourist center, with a lot of things to visit. As we are on July 1st, the roads are pedestrian, it is very pleasant. Here is the Chateau Laurier, now a luxury hotel. Its magical side reminds us of the luxury castle in Quebec City Rideau Canal & Locks…

A day in Quebec City (Canada)

During our 3-day roadtrip in the Quebec region, we were so tired that we had to zap Quebec City. We decided to come back there to attend their Quebec Day on June 24th. Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Bus tickets being bought online, we leave from the bus station in Montreal and arrive at the (beautiful) train station in Quebec City. For info, we chose the Orleans Express company, on time and comfortable. Note: the entire region is called Quebec City (e.g. Montreal is part of Quebec). But the city is called Quebec City. Saint-Jean Street JB chose our Airbnb very well. It is…
