2 weeks of Road Trip in Madagascar – Travel Diary

We take advantage of the (de)confinement to continue our stories of past trips with this travel diary to Madagascar (2015). This trip is important for us because not only did we go there to attend the wedding of our friends V. and H. but it was also the first time that we traveled in a minimalist way, a small year before leaving on a world tour. Practical advice is, as usual, available at the end of the article. Note: this article has been proofread and completed by V. and H. Everything they have completed, will be written in italics for ease of reading. Part 1: Travel Diary Part 2: Practical…

How to get to Abu Simbel from Aswan? Practical guide Egypt

By bus There are 2 buses leaving Aswan for Abu Simbel: around 4am and around 7am. Contact your hotel directly. I have been given a rate around 250-300 pounds per person for the round trip . The 4h bus is taken by tourists. The 7h bus is taken by the locals (there are some who smoke inside) and our guide does not recommend it. The return is a few hours later, in the same day (in this case at 9 am for the bus which leaves at 4 am). It is possible, for those who want to sleep in Abu Simbel, to book a bus for the outward journey (around…

My first session with a Chiropractor: Tamalou in Essaouira (Morocco)

This article isn’t NOT sponsored I have told you here and here that I had pain in my shoulders and neck because of the bedding not adapted to Morocco and my habit of blogging from my couch. It became so unpleasant that I couldn’t lower my neck completely. That’s when I wanted to look for an osteopath (one and not one) – because male osteopaths tend to crack a bit more than female osteopaths (in my experience). I couldn’t find one in Essaouira, there were some in Casablanca (7 hours drive) and in Marrakech (I don’t like this city). I gave myself a few days to think about it, to…

Digital Nomad: Assessment after 2.5 months in Morocco (Marrakech, Essaouira, Sahara Desert)

We just spent 2.5 months in Morocco! It’s the first time we’ve stayed so long in one country (since our departure around the world in June 2016). A small assessment is necessary. Why Morocco? Digital nomads often choose to flee the winter, because they can choose their destination and few people like the greyness and cold There aren’t many destinations where you can spend the winter in warmth, without breaking the bank. Between Asia and North Africa, the choice was very easy for me. I can no longer stand pollution in Asia, my skin suffers from it, and to find a more or less human face, I have to go…

12 days of Road trip in Morocco (Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir, Sahara desert): Itinerary, Budget, Practical Travel Guide, Advices

We just spent 2.5 months and loved Morocco. Even though I know that many people don’t have that much time to visit Morocco, I have concocted a 12-day program for you, inspired by our roadtrip with our friend Aurélien last Christmas. This duration is ideal for those who plan to spend the holiday season in Morocco. To view all our articles on Morocco, click here Itinerary: for independent travelers Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech. Visit of the secret garden, the Jemaa el Fna square and the souk. Dinner on the Jemaa el Fna square. Night in Marrakech. Day 2: Take the bus at 7:30 am to Ouarzazate. Ask the driver…

Marrakech (Morocco): Majorelle’s Garden, El Badii Palace

After 2.5 months in Morocco, it is time to leave for another country. We have to return to Marrakech before taking the plane to Lisbon. This suits us because we still have a few places to visit in Marrakech. Part 1: Travel Diary Day 1 : Return to Marrakech There are only two CTM buses leaving Essaouira for Marrakech during the day. The first one leaves only at 12:45 pm. We still have time to make a call with a client, have lunch (our owner cooked us a chicken tagine) and pack our bags. It’s going to be weird to leave Essaouira, after 2 months in this apartment (it’s huge…

Road trip: from Essaouira to Agadir: Paradise Valley, Surfing Beaches, the Honey Road & mountains

Since Meknes and Fez are too far from Essaouira, we decide to do a 3 days mini roadtrip near us, to Agadir. As usual, we call the car rental company recommended by our landlord. I will leave you his contact information at the bottom of the article. Part 1: Travel Diary Day 1: Imouzzer Waterfall Let’s go for an extended weekend between Essaouira and Agadir. Today, our car rental company is dropping off a Dacia Duster in front of our house at “9am inch’alla” (i.e. it only arrives at 10am in reality…). We have the same model of car that we will be in Iceland. It is super handy, comfortable,…

Quad ride in Essaouira (Morocco) with Palma Quad

This post is NOT sponsored While walking to the medina of Essaouira, we passed by chance in front of Palma Quad which offers quad biking trips We made a first one-hour walk on January 1st with Aurélien. We liked it so much that we decided, two weeks later, to go out again. And this time, we took a 3 hours outing 🙂 What are Palma Quad’s rates? The rates are as follows. They include all the equipment, water, chocolate bars and the (beautiful) pictures that the instructor will take during the outing. For our first outing of one hour, we chose to take a 125cc quad, that seems to me…

Cosmetics to buy in Morocco. Where to buy them in Marrakech & Essaouira

I haven’t bought cosmetics from Japan! But when we arrived in Morocco 2 months ago, my skin screamed for help. My creams from Japan did not moisturize enough. It is much too dry in Morocco. Oh what a pity! We’ ll have to test the local cosmetics 😀 I tested a lot of them so I thought you might be interested. In this article, I will give you my best addresses in Marrakech, and especially in Essaouira, where I spent 2 months. Where to buy cosmetics? Especially not in the souk! Even if Morocco is a producer of argan oil, the quality of the argan oil sold in the souk…

Road trip in Morocco: 3 days in Essaouira (part 3/3)

If you have not yet read the first parts of our roatrip in Morocco, read part 1 here, and part 2 here. In the previous episode, we spent the whole day in transport to get to Marrakech. Part 1: Travel Diary Today, we allow ourselves to sleep in. Who says oversleeping in the morning says… 9h lol. We are so used these last days to get up early that we can’t sleep until 10am either. Aurélien admits to us that after 2 nights in bivouac in the desert, a good hot shower seems so luxurious to him. I think that this is what many travelers find – especially after a…
