Digital Nomad: Our Airbnb in Montenegro (Boka Bay)

For over 3 weeks, we’ve been in this Airbnb with a stunning view over the Bay of Kotor. Let me show you our little one-bedroom apartment in the video below. In the low season, there aren’t that many options after all, and JB picked out 3 Airbnbs that fit our criteria pretty well (all over the country ^^), one of which was 100m² (way too big for two people). Since there’s no heating here and people mostly use reversible air conditioning, we’d rather go with a small apartment to make sure we don’t freeze to death. We have a sliding glass door, and from the living room, we can see…

Card Swallowed by an ATM Abroad: What to Do?

In Kotor, Montenegro, I had the misfortune of having my bank card swallowed by an ATM during a cash withdrawal attempt. It was clearly an issue with the machine since my card was swallowed before I could even enter my PIN. The bank branch was closed at the time, but I was able to go back a few days later. The advisor spoke good English, went to the ATM, and came back with two bank cards, including mine! Unfortunately, there is a procedure to follow: she gave me an email address and explained that I needed to ask my bank (Fortuneo) to email them authorizing me to retrieve my card.…

Which cosmetics to bring back from Montenegro?

I scoured the entire internet and couldn’t find a single article about cosmetics in Montenegro. So I’ll just do it myself, I guess.I searched everywhere but couldn’t find a single Montenegrin cosmetics brand. Sorry. Because of the freezing cold and my nearly empty moisturizer, I had to go on a little shopping spree with the goal of finding THE moisturizer for this winter. Suitable for combination, acne-prone skin. Where to buy cosmetics? There’s a chain called Cosmetics Market. You can find them either as standalone stores or inside shopping malls. It’s the equivalent of CVS in the US. They sell everything: skincare, makeup, hygiene products, home products. You can find…

UPDATE 13/01/2021: no more PCR test needed to enter Montenegro

Contrary to what is stated on the internet on the embassy and ministry of foreign affairs websites, since 12/01/2021, some restrictions have been lifted for Montenegro. Restrictions were put in place on December 8, 2020, then tightened on the 21st and 24th of December, but as soon as the Orthodox Christmas ended, we can again: enter Montenegro without negative PCR test within 72 hours – you just need to respect the barrier gestures, i.e., wear a mask, keep social distance, etc. all borders remain open except one that is closed between 7pm and 7am (I no longer remember which one) the restriction on travel between regions at weekends has been…

End of 2020: Two Terrifying Moments (Montenegro)

After being forced to take some rest because of travel restrictions (and rain), we have 2 days to change regions without breaking the law. Ulcinj I choose Ulcinj, a rather big city with a picturesque old town high up, with a sea view. Paradise on Earth. Having been in a warm and comfortable infrastructure for several days, we do not realize that the storm Stella is also approaching Montenegro. In the morning, as we leave the hotel to our Airbnb in Ulcinj, it rains a little, with some stretches where the rain is so heavy that it looks like someone is pouring a bucket of water on us. It is…

Christmas 2020 & our 10th Year Anniversary in Montenegro

For our 10 years of marriage, we had imagined so many dream destinations: Seychelles, Maldives, Kenya, Tanzania… but because of Covid, the dream destinations will wait. We spend them rather in Montenegro. Note: this article is part of our road trip Croatia – Montenegro. We choose the 5 stars hotel which seems to us the coolest, not very far from Budva, to spend Christmas in the warmth. The prohibition to change regions applies from…

Many cultures have access to a kind of calendar based on astrology. Basically, the location of the planets can influence humans. Usually, I don’t even bother to consult this calendar but due to the uncertain events of the last few months, many eclipses, Blood Moon,…
