Our opinion: Central location, hot water, nice view from our private balcony. English speaking owner. But owner not very friendly (or shy?). We have to ring every time to enter.

Our opinion: We recommend this casa. It is a 5 minute walk from the main square. Warm owner, she even sent a tuk tuk to pick us up for free at the bus station. She speaks very good English. Possibility to have dinner at her mother’s house, just next door, for 12CUC/person.
Another option: Her neighbor (Daniel y??), two houses away, has a house with a terrace with a very nice view (25CUC per room), but her neighbor only speaks Spanish.

Our opinion: We recommend! This is the best local experience of our stay, provided you can speak Spanish. Because unfortunately, Elsa and her family only speak Spanish, you can chat with them for hours, they are always in the kitchen. Her son came to pick us up by bike at the bus station. The dinner is average, but it’s authentic.
If you go there, think of taking an anti stain cream (brown spots due to the sun) to Elsa’s sister, it will make her very happy because she doesn’t find any in Cuba.
Playa Giron : Hostal El Castillito

The direction is playa giron carretera Cienfuegos, esquina carretera a Caleta buena,(cuatro caminos) Hostal el castillito, Yaya y Manolito. It is a different location in Playa Giron, it is a small town and all our facilities are available.

Our opinion: We recommend! Best dinner of the stay. It is a hostel so there is a real chef who cooks. It’s delicious and not expensive, in the 12€. Yaya speaks very good English, and the hostel is right next to a stop of the turistic bus that takes you to the different touristic places of the region for 3€.

Our opinion: We recommend! The most consistent dinner of the entire stay. Vegetables are served as much as you want and in buffet mode. Both owners speak good English. The rooms are super spacious (we can be 4 in them). The casa is at 2mn walking distance from the most beautiful beach of the city – Playa Caleton (the quietest, transparent water), more pleasant than the Playa Larga which is more local but more animated. The owners have reserved for us the “divers bus” to go snorkeling in the area for cheap.

Our opinion: a large garden + a large terrace. The casa is at the edge of the old town, and at 1mn from a square where you can eat local food. The owners and staff speak english. The cocktails are divine. However, the atmosphere is a bit cold.

Our opinion: we recommend you to find a casa in Boca de Camarioca, and not in Varadero for the local side. And you can take a truck for 0,10€ to go to Varadero. However, we don’t necessarily recommend this casa, which pushes a little too much to the purchase. The atmosphere is weird.

Our opinion: We recommend! Most luxurious experience with a sitting area, jacuzzi and a bedroom upstairs, like a small loft. The casa is a little out of the city. Dinner divinely good, and not very far from buses and trucks to visit the city center of Matanzas or Varadero. The owner speaks English and brought us free of charge in his superb luxury vintage car to the Hershey train station.
