Travel diary Tokyo (Japan) #3: Tokyo DisneySea, the most beautiful Disney park in the world

The world tour is an excellent excuse to visit all the Disney parks in the world. We missed this opportunity in Hong Kong, but there is no question of missing this time in Tokyo.

Part 1: Travel Diary

After our round trip to Mount Fuji and long hours on the bus back to Tokyo in the middle of Golden Week, JB is less and less motivated to go to a crowded place, but I convince him to go there after Golden Week and more during the week. So it’s to please me that he buys the tickets online, has them printed in a 7eleven and it’s under a little rain that we arrive at Maihama Station.

Then you have to take another train (230yen/one way it seems to me) from Disney to avoid the 15mn walk in the rain.

This train is super cute

There are two parks: normal Disneyland and DisneySea. As Disneyland is quite similar to the one in the United States (see the practical guide of Disneyland Orlando) and the one in Paris, we prefer to go to DisneySea to “meet” Ariel, Nemo and company.

What astonishes us at once is this magnificent false port…

… seen in the evening with the lights, it is even more impressive.

We have an application to know the waiting time of each attraction and we choose to queue 50mn (+ take a Fast Pass for 16h50) for this flagship attraction.

We wait in line until we get to Andy’s room. Notice the size of his dresser.

We sit down in pairs here, each with a pistol, which is activated by shooting the ball down. The goal is to shoot at the virtual targets (screens, and we move from one screen to the other).

Since we have 3D glasses, we can see very well where we shoot, and the idea is to make the highest score possible. We are brought from one game to another. At the beginning, JB and I try to aim with precision and we make a pitiful score. But on the second try (when we came back at 4:50 pm), we managed to double our scores by shooting like crazy at everything that moves.

Here are our rotten scores the first time:

We then pass under a fake volcano (which spits fire and smoke from time to time) to make the attraction 20000 leagues under the sea.

Basically, we are put in a kind of cabin and everything is made so that we have the impression to be really plunged under water. There are small bubbles in front of the glass, etc.. On many occasions, I ask JB if we are really underwater because it is super well done.

Unfortunately, the flagship attraction next door: Journey to the center of the earth is temporarily closed.

Then we go to the Mermaid Lagoon, and watch a show with a real Ariel suspended by the ropes. The show is fun, but is more suitable for the little ones.

I also show you the decorations! DisneySea, it’s really the enchantment of Disney combined with Japanese efficiency. Everything is perfect, everything is done with care, it’s incredible! There is also a fake Venice canal that I forgot to take a picture of.

The Tower of Terror attraction is also temporarily closed.

In the morning, we went to Magellan’s to reserve two places for breakfast at 2:30 pm, a restaurant with a very good rating.

Indeed, the decoration is impressive, it’s hard to say that we are in a Disney park. And the dishes are very very good, for 25€/person.

After this gastronomic parenthesis, we go in search of pepper popcorn. Here, they don’t joke with popcorns, popcorns all have different tastes, and it’s super well done, for example next to mermaid lagoon, the popcorns are salty. And next to the Arabian Coast, the pop-corns taste like curry…

Since the pepper popcorns have been so much praised in Google Maps reviews, we venture to Port Discovery to buy them. They are right next to Hangar Stage.

They are really too good !!! With a little peppery aftertaste. For only 360yen. Some people even buy big buckets of Mickey shaped popcorn that they can hang around their neck and fill for a moderate price once finished.

We also take the opportunity to watch a show at the Hangar Stage. The special effects are really great, it seems that there are real trees in front of us. I highly recommend you!

Then it’s off to the Indiana Jones attractions, the first one where you really feel like exploring the inside of a temple lost in the jungle. And the second one which looks like the one in Paris, with a little loop of nothing at all. Even the little ones can participate.

Well, in terms of sensational attractions, it doesn’t equal Disneyland Paris, but in terms of decoration, it’s beyond our imagination.

We still play some other attractions and a show… and as it rains too much, we decide to skip the big show at 8pm and the fireworks (which will surely not take place at 8:30pm).

Without forgetting to visit the souvenir stores 😀

It is with the stars in our eyes that we return to our airbnb, exhausted, but so happy.

Part 2: Practical Tips

  • You don’t have to buy the tickets in advance like we do, you can buy them at the entrance of the park and during the week, there was not a lot of queues
  • It’s best to go during the week, preferably in bad weather (almost all attractions are indoors) to avoid crowds
  • There are tickets to visit both DisneySea and Disneyland but you cannot visit them on the same day.
    • One day/park ticket costs 7400 yen
    • The two day/two park ticket costs 13,200 yen

  • There are Fast Pasts for flagship attractions, but on weekdays there is so little waiting that fast pasts aren’t always available
  • Don’t forget to download the Wait Times + Map for Tokyo disneyland app to follow waiting times in real time
  • As soon as you arrive in the park, find the restaurant where you want to have lunch and reserve seats
