What about Security in Egypt in 2020?

As soon as we tell our relatives that we are going to Egypt, the first question we are asked is: “what about security?”, as if we were suicidal (at the same time, our relatives saw us chainedto Turkey then Egypt, both countries not necessarily well seen on *BFM*). Obviously, zero risk does not exist, as we have sadly learned in France in recent years. In Egypt, one has never felt unsafe and the tourist places are very watched. All hotels, museums, temples … have security gates. They are used with more or less zeal but it has the merit to exist. At the airport, it was necessary to come super…

2020 Ticket Prices for Temples & Museums in Egypt

Heads up: entrance fees have skyrocketed recently (November 2018) because the Egyptian pound has dropped and the government decided old prices were too low once converted to euros/dollars. So don’t trust the rates you see in the Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, or elsewhere—they’re outdated. My prices are from November 2018 (the latest). Unfortunately, I only have rates for the monuments/temples I’ve visited. I don’t have prices for places I haven’t been to, so it’s a bit limited, sorry. You’ll also find photos of the ticket prices at the bottom of the post. [ninja_tables id=”23106″] There are additional tickets/fees to pay – The basic entry to most sites usually doesn’t cover the…

10 most popular scams in Egypt

Like Cuba, Egypt is a country to visit absolutely. However, in these two countries, the feeling of being an ATM on legs will not leave you for a second and you will have to put your hand in your pocket very regularly. We will list below the most popular damage limitation scams in Egypt. 1. Egyptian coins that look strangely similar to Euros : Many tourists giveEuro coins as a tip. Egyptians cannot change them at the bank, which only accepts banknotes. It isn’t uncommon for them to hand you Euro coins, not to beg, but to exchange for a €5 bill or the equivalent in Egyptian pounds. There’s nothing…

Prepaid 4G SIM card in Egypt: how much does it cost? Where to buy it?

Being taken care of by our tourist agency upon arrival at the airport, we had the good surprise to be offered a SIM card upon arrival containing 3 GB of data. Buying a SIM card at the airport: it’s theft! As we like you, dear readers, we still inquired about how to buy a SIM card at the airport. In our case (Luxor airport), it’s very simple, since a Vodafone stand is present in the area where we pick up our luggage. It’s very simple but expensive, judge for yourself: 3 GB for € 17 + € 5 SIM card: for Egypt, it’s theft! Unless you need the Internet right…

Digital Nomad in Istanbul (Turkey): Where to find an Apartment, Airbnb, Tips & Practical Travel Guide

Since we are digital nomads, Istanbul is the 3rd city where we have a lot of trouble finding a decent apartment (with Seoul and Osaka). The apartments we see on Airbnb are either too crowded, too dark, or too expensive and badly located. So we are going to write you here a small guide for digital nomads like us Istanbul Plan Istanbul is really huge, so I’ll just introduce you to the central part, what interests you the most in Istanbul Many tourists cross a bridge (Galata for the most part) and exclaim: I am in Asia! when it isn’t true. It isn’t because you cross a bridge that it…

How to go from Istanbul to Ephesus: Tour, Backpack by Bus or Plane

To visit the archeological site ofEphesus, you have to go to the town of Selçuk, which is just belowEphesus, 2-3km away You have different options to go there On an organized tour This is the option that I do not recommend because it is so easy to move around on your own. All the agencies in downtown Istanbul will offer you organized tours (with transportation) from Istanbul to Ephesus (with tour, guide, transportation included) for one day Either you opt for night buses (cheaper) Either you opt for the (more expensive) plane: departure from the hotel at 5 am and return to Istanbul at 11 pm Please note that tour…

Cappadocia / Goreme (Turkey) by Car: Travel Guide, Itinerary, Budget, Google Maps, Tips, Tricks

I spent an impressive number of hours organizing my trip to Cappadocia. There is a serious lack of information about this region, especially about transportation, because (1) it isn’t a very well known region (2) most tourists opt for organized tours (3) the Routard/Lonely Planet type travel guides only list the points of interest city by city while Cappadocia can be visited by going from one city to another. So I took my courage in both hands, and after my recent weekend in Göreme, I wrote down, pinned down, and created Google Maps itineraries to make it easier for you. Visiting Cappadocia without a guide is quite possible, just read…
