Prepaid 4G SIM card in Morocco: how much does it cost? Where to buy it? What speed?

At the airport, you will see stands of telephone operators, including INWI and Orange. Contrary to most airports, these stands are at the level of baggage retrieval and not afterwards. Maroc Telecom may be in the area but we did not see it.

Here are the rates that we have noted at the airport of Casablanca :

  • Orange : 10dh (1€) per Go – free SIM card (at the airport only, otherwise 50dh)
  • Inwi: 10dh (1€) per Go – free SIM card (at the airport only, otherwise 50dh)

At the airport, we chose Inwi, by feeling

Not having any cash and since they don’t accept payment by credit card, we just took the free SIM card (they give us one like that, without asking for the passport number). 20dh is already available on our account, allowing us to make a call if needed. If you still want to buy credit for the internet right away, exchange offices are available next door (but no ATM).

NB: in some tourist areas, representatives of mobile operators offer free SIM cards as at the airport. Keep an eye out if you want to take advantage of them.

Inwi

And a flyer that explains everything:

We have to buy an inwi refill at the corner grocery store. We choose the amount we want, 10dh = 1Go with the offer *2. Be careful, you have to scratch the part that looks like a mirror (and not remove the “mirror” that might erase the numbers). It’s impossible to scratch with a nail, get a coin. We bought refills of 50dh (5€)

If you want internet, you only have to PAS follow the indication on the scratch card, but what follows, to take advantage of the offer 10dh = 1Go.

First, enter *120# and click the call button.

Then you can consult the current offers by typing 1 for example.

To reload while taking advantage of the *2 offer, type 5 (click on “Reply” to type 5)

then 1

Then enter the reload code (that you scratched) followed by *2 to benefit from the offer 10dh = 1Go.

If you don’t enter *2, you will have just 50dh on your account. And we don’t know what exactly 50dh actually corresponds to. How many GB? How many SMS? While if you enter *2 behind, you choose the *2 offer that corresponds to that:

You can also download the Inwi application. But with this special offer, we don’t really know how many Gigs we have left, it’s not very intuitive. But we can deduce, looking at the balance of the Koulchi offer, that we still have about 4.7Gb left.

Connection speed in 4G

The speed is excellent, I let you judge it by yourself, even if the upload can be improved, it’s enough for a call with video.

To check your balance with Inwi: enter *120*30# then the call button.

Maroc Telecom

The internet connection of our accommodation being limited, we decided to buy another SIM card for our pocket wifi.

So we went to a phone store as there are many with the intention of buying an Orange SIM card (just to have two different operators and be able to play according to their network quality depending on the zones).

The seller, who seemed to know a lot about it, recommended us instead to go through Maroc Telecom which according to him has the best network coverage.

We decided to follow his advice.

The SIM card costs 60dh.

Then, like Inwi and Orange, the Go of internet costs 10dh.

As for Inwi, you can buy Maroc Telecom refills to scratch in grocery stores.

Some numbers to know

Consultation of the balance : 580

Reload: call 555, type 1 then enter your code followed by *3* ( for some reason, the Jawal pass to get internet, only works if you call).

If you are looking for a hotel/riad in Marrakech, we recommend you the very nice riads that we liked very much :

  • Riad Sabbah (very close to the main square, and within the souk itself, no need to take a cab lol, the breakfast included is incredible)link Booking
  • Dar Asdika (10 minutes walk from the souk, you can dine there, it’s very good and consistent) – Booking link
