Reviews: GoGirl, female urinal for (finally) doing p*p* standing up

Before I went around the world, I bought a GoGirl, I was so excited at the idea of being able to relieve my bladder anywhere (like guys) that I wondered why I hadn’t tried to create/buy/apply for it before. The GoGirl (12€, Amazon link) allows you to urinate standing like a man and get around stressful situations for a woman such as: toilets with questionable hygiene, impossibility to find a toilet, or terrain configuration not compatible with the squatting position .It is a reusable medical silicone object, to be placed where it is needed. It is compatible with zipper skirts and pants. You can indeed urinate like a man in all discretion. Under no circumstances will you find your buttocks in the air (that’s the principle). After use, it can be rinsed with water. It is foldable and can be stored discreetly in its small box. If there is no water nearby, it can be stored in a plastic bag. Once at home, it is cleaned again with soap.I find its use particularly suitable for toilets with questionable hygiene. But this is less the case in nature since the object has to be tilted in a certain way that you can’t adjust “the shot”. Thus, it is possible to find oneself with wet shoes, unless one has a particular technique (legs apart, slow and controlled flow). In any case, it is recommended to train in the shower first.

But all the way around the world, I never used it. Fortunately for me, the toilets with extremely dubious hygiene (in India in particular) were “contactless” toilets (Turkish toilets). And the only time I was in the wilderness was in New Zealand and Nepal… and even in these situations, it was possible to find public toilets, or at nice people’s homes. And I must admit that… going to rinse your GoGirl at the sink of a public toilet is more than embarrassing. Keeping it, all dirty, in a plastic bag until we go back to the hotel under 36°C is just as embarrassing. So, everything looks good on paper but in practice, unless you do 3-day treks in the deep Amazon, the GoGirl didn’t serve me at all.For me, the GoGirl is as important as a survival blanket . You’re happy to have it just in case, but you don’t use it every day during the round-the-world trip either.
