Calculate & Boost Your Luck with Bát Tự Hà Lạc

I’ve already told you about the Bazi a very long time ago. It’s a discipline I couldn’t learn because there are too many Chinese terms, and I fall asleep every time in front of Bazi YouTube courses. But there’s a form of Bazi that’s easier to learn (for Vietnamese people) called “Bát Tự Hà Lạc“. From a person’s birth time and date, you can derive several hexagrams I Ching, which allow you to predict that person’s future. And like Bazi, you can look at what might happen for a specific hour, date, or month.

But what’s more interesting is to look at the level of luck of that person. Luck is made up of three elements: Transformative Energy (Hóa Công), Celestial Primordial Energy (Thiên Nguyên khí), and Terrestrial Primordial Energy (Địa Nguyên khí). Recently, I met two people who possessed all three energies simultaneously, and I could see that their level of luck was simply extraordinary. This reminded me that I had never told you about it before.

The three fundamental energies of luck

Transformative Energy (Hóa Công), Celestial Primordial Energy (Thiên Nguyên khí), and Terrestrial Primordial Energy (Địa Nguyên khí) arise from the convergence of the precise moment of birth (date and time), the year, the season, and the environmental and spatial context in which a person is born. These energies embody the blessings that Heaven and Earth bestow upon human beings. They manifest in two main forms: Transformative Energy (Hóa Công) and Primordial Energies (Nguyên khí). People endowed with these celestial favors will experience a life marked by luck and favorable opportunities.

I’ve already talked about it: many elements that determine our success don’t depend on us at all.

Transformative Energy (Hóa Công)

In simple terms, Transformative Energy represents the creative power of the universe, a gift from nature granted to those who were lucky enough to be born during the most auspicious periods of the four seasons. This energy is a mark of Heaven’s and Earth’s favor on an energetic level. Possessing Transformative Energy indicates remarkable potential: keen intelligence, great virtue, and multifaceted strength. It’s also the sign of a prestigious destiny, marked by distinctions, honors, academic successes, and professional advancements.

For a woman, this energy heralds the possibility of reaching a high social position. In the past, it referred to virtuous and exemplary women; today, they are caring mothers, talented teachers, competent doctors, accomplished artists, or admired public figures.

The two Primordial Energies (Nguyên khí)

Primordial Energies constitute the original essence of Heaven and Earth. They concentrate the most noble, pure, and essential qualities that favor life. These energies appear only at specific and privileged times of the year.

Those born precisely during these time windows benefit from the privilege of absorbing these energies into themselves (aka they were born at the right time). These energies then shape exceptional qualities that unfold throughout their lives and form the foundation of their success. The sages of old compared people of great talent and high virtue to a nation’s Primordial Energy, thus underscoring their vital and precious role in society.

P/s: While creating a computer program to calculate Bazi, a professor realized that an identical astral configuration only repeats after 180 years, contrary to the popular belief of 60 years. This discovery would help explain why individuals with exceptional destinies are so rare.

So one can have 0, 1, 2, or 3 “lucky” energies.

If a person simultaneously possesses Transformative Energy (Hóa Công), Celestial Primordial Energy (Thiên Nguyên Khí), and Terrestrial Primordial Energy (Địa Nguyên Khí) (aka the three energies), they benefit from a particularly favorable destiny that will allow them to meet luck and achieve success in life. It’s as if three guardian angels are watching over them throughout their existence. In reality, this luck rests on concrete qualities: they have great adaptability in the face of life’s ups and downs, they know how to navigate skillfully in their words and actions, and they remain constantly in harmony with their destiny, their era, and their personality. This alignment allows them to succeed, as if Heaven and Earth themselves were supporting them.

If the person only has two of these three energies, a more in-depth analysis of the combinations is necessary (which I cannot detail here due to the complexity of the subject), but most of the time, they are also a lucky person.

On the other hand, if the person lacks these three factors, it’s an unfavorable sign. They will struggle to adapt to the demands of their era, making success hard to achieve, especially at decisive moments in their life. You recognize these people very quickly: they are always unlucky, and despite the effort put in, there’s always something completely beyond their control that hits them (e.g., water damage right during the holidays).

So here we see that LUCK = being in the right place at the right time, with personal skills suited to the situation.

Recognizing and surrounding yourself with lucky people

Here is the Vietnamese link to calculate the degree of luck. I’m aware that for non-Vietnamese, and even for Vietnamese, it’s very hard to understand, but when I don’t provide the link, I get criticized for hiding info, and told that AI can translate anything, so here’s the link. You must convert the birth time and date back to Vietnamese time & lunar date. I can’t consult for anyone because I don’t have the gift.

Even without using Vietnamese tools, it’s very easy to spot truly lucky people. You just have to ask them. Lucky people spontaneously acknowledge their luck and can recall moments when opportunities came out of nowhere, as if dropped from the sky. In my very personal experience, “lucky” people have at least 2 of the 3 energies.

The two exceptionally lucky people I mentioned at the start possess all three energies. They regularly experience situations where opportunities come to them completely unexpectedly, through circumstances entirely beyond their control. What’s remarkable is that these opportunities were already showing up from a very young age.

The good news is that these people’s luck rubs off on those around them. When you’re in their company or travel with them, their luck benefits you too. For example, if they get a free upgrade for no apparent reason, so do you. I’ve also noticed a fascinating phenomenon: when a very lucky person (with all 3 energies) travels with an unlucky one (with none), the latter experiences no misfortune. It’s as if the former’s luck neutralizes and shields against the latter’s bad luck. That explains why ordinary parents suddenly become very lucky after a lucky child is born, or why a man’s career skyrockets after marrying a lucky woman. That’s why companies have everything to gain by hiring lucky people and positioning them strategically in roles where their individual fate resonates with that of the organization. These people naturally attract exceptional opportunities (like a tender that comes around only once every 10 years) and make decisions guided by remarkable intuition. I was lucky enough to meet someone who perfectly embodied these qualities: beyond undeniable skills, they had an extraordinary vision, great timing, and the ability to adapt to any situation. They were in perfect harmony with Heaven and Earth.

Another very telling sign: when a lucky person walks into an empty restaurant, it quickly fills up, as if customers are magnetically drawn to their energy aura. This happened to me personally. I was walking past a restaurant, quite late (around 2 PM), well after lunchtime, and felt an inexplicable pull toward the place. As I walked in, as if by chance, I sat right next to this energy source. I discovered a man cheerfully chatting with the waitress, explaining that restaurants fill up as soon as he sets foot in them. These people are highly valued by restaurateurs worldwide. In some cultures, they’re given gifts or free meals to keep them coming back. The downside when you’re with them? You always run out of space because the place gets packed in under 30 minutes and the service is completely overwhelmed! 😀

However, when you benefit from someone else’s luck, you’re, in a way, borrowing their energy. According to the law of karma, you should repay this debt. This can be done through thoughtful gestures, gifts, favors… or simply through sincere gratitude.

Bát Tự Hà Lạc isn’t a discipline known to the majority of Vietnamese people. Even in Vietnamese esoteric circles, only two authors have published works on the subject.
