Shooting range session in Koh Phangan (Thailand)

Back from a hotel stay for my birthday, we happen to pass by the entrance to the Phangan Yang Yai Shooting Association (link to their Facebook page).

Judging by the photos on their Facebook page, this is where the police forces train in shooting.

Since I’m still a big kid and shooting a pistol is fun for me, we follow the path without really knowing if the shooting range is open during this covid period.

The dirt road is quite long but manageable by scooter, and it’s by hearing several gunshots that we get our answer: it’s open.

The range offers many different weapons and the price depends on the caliber, here are the different ones offered.

To be honest, I find the prices extremely expensive and I probably wouldn’t have come if I had known.

I did sport shooting at the Porte de la Chapelle range in Paris. In addition to the annual membership, I paid €5 for gun rental plus about twenty euros for a box of 50 .22 LR rounds.

If we compare with a ‘touristy’ shooting range, I paid €130 in Prague to use 10 different weapons and shoot 80 rounds.

Since it was my birthday, I didn’t want to go home empty-handed, so I treated myself to 20 rounds of 9mm (2500 baht or €65).

The range is serious, the weapons are well maintained (you can see they clean them after each use) and an employee accompanies you throughout the session. I didn’t really get a briefing, but I think it’s because the employee saw that I knew what I was doing.

20 rounds means 2 magazines.

I load the magazines myself, I shoot, and we look at the result.

Nothing fantastic, but it had been several years since I last shot, so I’m quite satisfied with the result.

For a special occasion, why not. But for regular training, I find the price excessively expensive.
