Cappadocia / Goreme (Turkey) by Car: Travel Guide, Itinerary, Budget, Google Maps, Tips, Tricks

I spent an impressive number of hours organizing my trip to Cappadocia. There is a serious lack of information about this region, especially about transportation, because (1) it isn’t a very well known region (2) most tourists opt for organized tours (3) the Routard/Lonely Planet type travel guides only list the points of interest city by city while Cappadocia can be visited by going from one city to another. So I took my courage in both hands, and after my recent weekend in Göreme, I wrote down, pinned down, and created Google Maps itineraries to make it easier for you. Visiting Cappadocia without a guide is quite possible, just read…

Discovery of the Turkish Baths (hammam) in Istanbul (Turkey)

What I particularly appreciate about traveling is trying to live authentic, typically local experiences. Traveling by public transportation, eating in dive bars where no tourist has ever set foot, getting a shave at the barbershop… or going to the public baths. I really liked the thermal baths in Budapest, appreciated the peculiarity of the sauna in Minsk, loved the onsens and sentos in Japan, a little less the Jjimjilbang in South Korea. In Turkey, it is impossible not to test the traditional hammams (or Turkish baths)! The tradition of the hammams is lost in Turkey. 100 years ago, there were 2500 Turkish baths in Istanbul. Since then the baths have…

Attend a Besiktas match in Istanbul (Turkey)

To buy tickets for a Besiktas match, you absolutely must have a Passolig card. I wrote a detailed article on the subject here: how to get a Passolig card. The day after my first soccer experience in Turkey (with a Galatasaray match), it is this time at a Besiktas match that I will attend. The Istanbul club is playing against Kayserispor The match takes place at Vodafone Park, a recently inaugurated venue that opened in 2016 and can accommodate 41,900 people I walk to the stadium since it is only 20 minutes from our Airbnb No particular difficulty to find my entrance. Like the day before, I have to present…

How do I buy a Passolig card to attend a soccer match in Turkey?

After attending matches of San Lorenzo and River Plate in Buenos Aires, FC Sevilla in Spain, Juventus and Torino in Turin. Impossible, having arrived in Istanbul, not to attend a few matches. Istanbul has indeed many soccer clubs including three mythical ones: Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. Asking to see if I could buy tickets in advance, I discovered a rather strange system: it is mandatory to have a Passolig card to buy tickets and attend the game. There is no alternative. The Passolig system is a bit complicated to understand but once you get your card, it’s very practical. You will be able to buy online, on a single website,…

Test & Reviews: Face care at Caudalie Boutique Spa in Paris (France)

This post is NOT sponsored After reading the book by the creator of the Caudalie brand (a bestseller across the Atlantic), I wanted to test their facial care in one of their spas in France. I have already bought their products, they don’t convince me 100%, but there are very good reviews on their spa so I made an appointment for a 50mn treatment. I have chosen Caudalie Boutique Spa rue des Abbesses because I had professional appointments not far away. By booking online (here), I get a discount: a facial at 56€ instead of 80€. Already, I love the neighborhood, but moreover the store is super nice (I put…

    That’s it, we are owners!

I posted on my Facebook account (private) the photos of our first real estate acquisition. And everyone asked me if we were planning to move to France etc. But no but no, we continue to travel. Our apartment is a rental investment, and will serve as a home sweet home… one day, maybe when we retire. I tell you here how we bought our first apartment while traveling. As we are novices in this field, it is not necessarily advice (there are surely more profitable things to do) but feedback. Our goal was not to maximize returns but to start building our wealth for retirement. Background Did you know that…

Travelers & Around the World: 10 Practical Tips

Even if I would have liked not to have had to make a separate article for female travelers (this would imply that men & women are treated the same way everywhere in the world), unfortunately this isn’t yet the case. Here are a few tips for women travelers, whether you are traveling alone or accompanied. You travel alone 1 / Prefer hostels to hotels There are many hostels with dormitories for women only. Not only will it be cheaper (especially when traveling alone), but you will feel safer and make friends more easily. Who knows, in the end, you may travel with a group of friends you meet on your…
