N26 and Revolut: How to declare foreign accounts for taxation in France?

This article concerns only French tax residents

If you have an N26 or Revolut account, you may not know it but these are foreign accounts!

Indeed, N26 is a German bank and Revolut is an English bank

You must therefore declare these accounts to the tax authorities via your tax return.

This declaration does not imply any additional tax or fee but if you forget it, you can be fined €1500 per undeclared account.

The procedure isn’t very complicated, here is how to do it.

1/ At the end of your online tax return, you will have a “Miscellaneous” section where you have to tick the box “Accounts opened, held, used or closed abroad”. This will allow you to complete Schedule 3916.

2/ Then indicate the number of foreign accounts you hold.

3/ You must then complete a form for each account, specifying the account holder and the account details.

For N26, you must fill in as follows.

And for Revolut, like this.

Validate and it’s done. Nothing very complicated, it’s done in 5 minutes 🙂

The case of Paypal accounts

If you have a Paypal account, it is also a foreign account since Paypal is in Luxembourg.

However, if this Paypal account is backed by one of your French account AND there is less than 10 000 € transaction over the year, you do not need to declare it.
