I already told you about the N26 card in this article.

N26 offers 3 different options and the high-end version is called N26 Metal.

N26 Metal costs 16,90 € / month or more than 200 € / year. This extra cost compared to the free card and the 9,90 € / month card obviously comes with advantages, let’s see if they are interesting.

In addition to the aesthetic aspect (the card is made of metal, available in 3 different colors) which does not have a huge interest, the advantages are twofold:

  • Benefits for partners
  • A complete range of insurance

Benefits for partners

  • WeWork is a global network of high-end co-working spaces. With the N26 Metal card, you will be entitled to one access per month to a WeWork co-working space anywhere in the world. I had the opportunity to go, during a meeting, in the WeWork space La Fayette in Paris, I must admit that it’s a big deal! WeWork does not offer “day pass” formulas and one day of any co-working rarely costing less than 15 / 20 €, this advantage alone can justify your subscription N26 Metal if you use it every month.
  • Babbel is a language learning application. N26 Metal gives you a 20% discount on the subscription. This is a “false” advantage, because it is easy to find an equivalent coupon code on the internet.
  • Hotels.com: N26 offers 10% discount on “independent hotels and local partner chains”. The definition of eligible hotels isn’t very clear and I don’t know if it is compatible with the 10% you can already get natively with hotels.com
  • GetYourGuide is a service allowing you to book online activities or tours anywhere in the world. N26 allows you to get 15% discount. Since the rates are usually much higher than the ones you can get locally, the advantage does not seem fantastic.

On the advantages with the partners, WeWork seems very interesting to me as well as Hotels.com if the eligible hotels are numerous.

Contrary to some preconceived ideas, the N26 metal card does not allow access to airport lounges.

The insurances

The N26 metal formula offers a wide range of insurance offering :

  • Travel coverage: reimbursement of medical expenses abroad and reimbursement of any trip cancellation due to health problems.
  • Reimbursement of a cell phone in case of theft
  • Mountain rescue, including search fees
  • Rental vehicle coverage

As usual, insurance companies have many exclusions to be careful of.

As an example, the high mountains (above 3000 meters of altitude) aren’t covered and your phone isn’t covered if it is more than 12 months old.

In addition, like most credit card insurances, coverage is only for the first 90 days of travel. Beyond that, it is important to take out specific travel insurance such as Chapka.

The only insurance that I find interesting is the one concerning the coverage of rental vehicles. You can indeed refuse the optional insurances of the renters and save a lot of money. The coverage seems similar to what the American Express Air France Gold card offers.

Conclusion

Although the benefits aren’t incredible, the N26 Metal card is a good card that will quickly pay for itself if you regularly take advantage of the WeWork coworking space and rent a vehicle several times a year.

An interesting alternative (which we use) is to take the N26 You card which is less expensive and, in addition, take an American Express Air France card (free the first one or even the first two years) which allows you to cover car rentals and also accumulate Air France miles convertible into a plane ticket.
