Discovery of axe throwing in Montreal (Canada)

I’m not sure if it’s really a traditional Canadian activity, but it’s certainly in fashion: we tested the barbaric practice of axe throwing in Montreal.

There are several addresses in Montreal, we simply chose the one closest to us : Rage Axe Throwing which is very well rated on Google and Tripadvisor (the name is well chosen too)

The reservation is made online. The rate is 45 CAD (+ taxes) from Monday to Thursday and 55 CAD from Friday to Sunday. This rate is for a target that can accommodate 1 to 3 people for a period of one hour.

Only instruction: come with closed shoes, it would be a shame to cut a toe. In case you forget, they lend shoes and sell socks, but it won’t necessarily be in your size 😀

Once we arrive on site, we pay and sign a discharge. We are entitled to a small briefing because axe throwing isn’t as simple as it may seem. The instructor tells us to forget the Game of Thrones scenes, we have to hold the axe at the end of its handle, with a lot of flexibility. You should not force it with your arm but accompany it with your body movement and the axe should only rotate one time before reaching the target.

The first attempts are a failure and the axe falls miserably to the ground after hitting the target. After a few tries, the hand is taken and the success rate is higher and higher.

We have a board at our disposal to record our scores and compete against Anh and me.

Once we’re doing well, the instructor suggests we try with a new axe, much longer and heavier, it takes two hands to send it.

Axe throwing is an original and fun activity but on our side one hour will be enough. Once you get the hang of it, it’s quickly repetitive. And there is no risk of sending the axe the other way, and hurting others 😀

In my opinion, it’s a very good activity for an EVG, to do before getting drunk though 😀
