6 Tips to Sell well on Vinted + Free Boosts

I’ve told you in another article how to sell well on Le Bon Coin. Today, I talk about the other famous selling site: Vinted.
After having been a compulsive buyer on this platform, I put a few items on sale as well and it went like hotcakes. I give you my tips here:

1. Choose the right time to go online

Everything goes very fast on Vinted. To make your ads visible and not lamentably crushed by other ads, you have to put your ads online at the time when people are logged in. I’ve looked at the number of “Vinted” searches on Google over the last 90 days and the connection peaks usually occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and on days when there are significant temperature variations: for example if it’s suddenly hot, people will suddenly need to buy summer clothes.

So it is necessary to put the ads online preferably :

  • in the evening (between 21h and 22h30)
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays or Saturdays
  • on days when there are significant temperature variations

Ads are validated instantly, so unlike Le Bon Coin, there is no need to do complicated calculations.

Once the ad is online, you will be very busy during the first hour, stay connected and download the Vinted application on your smartphone to be on the ball. If you are offered to lower the price, wait a day before accepting. Don’t jump on the first negotiation.

2. Upload vertical photos

On the Vinted app and on the results pages, the photos are displayed vertically. If you upload horizontal photos, it will cropper the photo and show the center of the photo (which may not be the most flattering part of your object). So take only vertical photos, it will be easier.

  • Try to take pictures during the day, with natural light. The background should be white if possible (it can be your wall). We want to avoid the buyer returning the item because of a color that doesn’t match the color of the photo.
  • You are allowed to put up to 20 pictures, so take lots of pictures!
  • The main photo is the most important one. It has to be the most beautiful, and it has to be as flattering as possible. If you still have the official photo of your product, don’t hesitate to put it as the main photo.
  • For clothes, it is absolutely necessary to take a picture of the label (to prove that it is the right size and the right brand) and if possible, the label with the composition of the garment.
  • If possible, iron your clothes before taking a photo.
  • And don’t put them on your dirty carpet, rug or parquet floor, because the buyer will wonder if your item is clean.
  • If the item is worn out, feel free to zoom in on the wear and tear and put your finger next to it to indicate the size of the wear.

3. Choose the title & description carefully

When you put an item on sale, you have to choose the category of the item, the brand, the colors etc. and most sellers forget to fill in this basic information in the title and description of the ad. Except that the more information you put in the title and the description, the more likely you are to be “found” when an Internet user makes a search.

For example for this shoulder bag of a brand that nobody knows, I still specified the brand, its color and its nature (shoulder bag) see my ad here. Instead of only marking “nice bag”, it is better to be more descriptive by marking like me “Sacha Black Shoulder Bag”. I could have been more specific by marking “Sacha Black Shoulder Bag Magnetic Clasp”. Because the fact that it’s a magnetic clasp is a big advantage: it’s a very safe system, and it doesn’t take 3 hours to open your bag.

You can notice that I have pumped as much information as possible from the product on the official website.
The dimensions are always very important to mention, especially when I don’t put a picture of the bag being worn. I also specify why I resell it.

If you don’t like to post pictures of you wearing the clothes (and I understand because there are some perverts who hang out on Vinted just to check out the girls), you can simply indicate that you’ve put on weight and the clothes don’t fit you anymore. Simple and effective.

If I were to sell the dress below, I would describe it as fully as possible, something like that. This dress is rather old (2013), bought from an almost unknown brand, but it’s very pretty and there aren’t many offers for it. I think I can sell it for 25€-30€.

Title : Blue flared dress with Yumi dots and white belt
Description : Very nice summer dress from the brand Yumi.
Dress without sleeves. Skater dress, flared from the belt, vintage style. Comes up to the knees.
Size: 36, sized correctly.
Chest: 85cm.
Size: 65cm
Length: 95cm
Composition: 100% cotton.

Dress fully lined with blue cotton fabric.
Color: Blue with white dots.
Very little worn. In excellent condition.
Dress washed before being put on sale.
I resell it because it has become too big for me.
Price new: 160€
Use the hashtag #tdm5c to see my other sales.

Discount possible for bundle purchase.
Possibility of hand-delivery in Rouen to avoid costs.

If you are selling high-tech products, do not hesitate to specify that you have the invoice, and that you can send it as a private message. Send the proof of the invoice (hiding several sensitive data such as your name, the serial number of your item) only to people who do not sell the same products as you.

For example if you have AirPods and the person also sells airpods, it is possible that he asks you for your invoice to put it on his ad and scam others. For iPhone or iPad IMEI numbers: don’t give them to anyone! Malicious people can file a complaint to the police (theft report) with your IMEI number and you risk having your phone blocked from one day to the next without knowing why. These are certainly extreme cases, but there are so many freaks out there that you have to be careful.

You’ll notice that at the end of the ad, I put a hashtag so that sellers can click on it and find all my items for sale and encourage them to search all my items for sale. There are some who create hashtags according to sizes, it’s super clever #tdm5csize36 #tdm5csize34 for example.

Having views on my inventory gives me “points” of visibility. This way, my items will be more visible. This is part of Vinted’s algorithm: the more views and people that bookmark you, the more visibility your ads will have when buyers search.

You can also use hashtags of similar brands, to attract buyers interested in those brands. For example, if you sell a Sessun dress, it’s worth adding hashtags for #sezane #maje #kooples that have about the same price tag and style.

4. Set the right price

Apparently on Vinted, you can’t see what items have already sold and at what price they sold.

To make a benchmark, I suggest you look at the items already sold on Le Bon Coin + eBay and see at what price they left (I talked about it here). On Vinted, find the items similar to your article and see if in a few days, they manage to sell. If they don’t, maybe it’s because the price isn’t that interesting or there’s a problem with their ads.

In any case, if you want to sell an item for 20€ and 3 other sellers offer the same thing for 3€, it is sure that your item will not sell easily.

I put old Airpods for sale. I still have a scan of the invoice to prove its authenticity.
New, they cost 170€ and will never be on sale. In spare parts, the case costs 55€ and each airpod 75€ (new).

I indicated 59€ as resale price, already because it’s psychological. 59€ is better than 60€ (see my ad here). And above all I know that the new replacement case is already sold for 55€ at Apple. My box is in excellent condition. The airpods work perfectly but the autonomy is reduced because of the battery wear. I’ve seen other abused ads: disgusting case with a left airpod, for sale at 55€. Fake airpods are sold at 25€.

So my price seems to me quite correct.

Then, many vinties contacted me privately to offer me to lower the price to 40€. As a result, I can eventually lower the price to 50€ if it doesn’t sell in a few days, and it will go very quickly. But I waited a few days. A lot of people tried to negotiate, and then it only takes one buyer for it to go for 59€.

It doesn’t cost anything to add a new ad. If you decide to lower the price, you can eventually create a new ad to benefit from a temporary boost effect, by being “new ad”. Or you can also change the price directly in the existing ad and everyone who bookmarked you will receive a notification of the price change.

5. Offer a discount to interested buyers

When someone bookmarks your article, you may receive a notification. You can then contact them privately to make an offer. Even if you lower the price by 1€, it won’t be taken badly, it’s a well known technique on Vinted. It’s an extra boost to make the buyer want to buy.

However, a buyer who makes an offer too quickly may push the buyer to negotiate further. Do this if you are anxious to get rid of it. Otherwise, it’s like text messaging, wait a few hours or even a day before offering a discount.

6. Participate in the forum to gain visibility

Go to the Vinted forum, there are a lot of little games to win views on your inventory. Having views on your inventory gives you bonus “points”. It’s part of the Vinted algorithm: the more views and people that bookmark you, the more visibility your ads will have when buyers search for you.

There are also buyers who are looking for specific things and ask for help on the forum: Visit the forum regularly to make yourself visible. But this is just an extra boost. I’m sure that the right title and description are worth much more than those little games that are put up in the forums.

I hope that by following these tips, you will make great sales on Vinted 🙂 note that sellers don’t pay fees. Buyers pay for delivery & fees. As long as you don’t pay the fees to boost your items / inventory, it’s a win-win situation for you.
