How to apply for a 30-day visa extension in Thailand? Koh Samui Immigration Office
JB already told you about the risks of overstaying in Thailand (hint: prison). I’m going to tell you about the 30-day visa extension, which every tourist normally gets without any difficulty in Thailand.
As you know, we came to Thailand thanks to a 45-day visa exemption (30 days turned into 45 days “thanks” to the 14-day quarantine).
Upon arrival, we had to fill out the TM6 form, and a stub of this form must be kept with us until we leave Thailand (the “departure card” stub).
Documents to prepare:
- photocopy of your passport, then sign on the photocopy
- photocopy of the TM6 given to you upon arrival, then sign on the photocopy
- photocopy of the page with the arrival stamp in Thailand, then you sign on this photocopy
- the completed TM7 form (they’ll give you the TM7 form for free at the reception)
- a 4x6cm photo taken within the last 6 months (we only have the 3.5cm x 4.5cm format and it was accepted anyway)
- 1900 baht
Everyone told us that the immigration office on Koh Samui is super relaxed and efficient, so we were super confident and booked 2 hours in the afternoon to extend our visa.
Go see the photocopy guy
On site, you’ll see a building on the side, with a photocopier. Every immigration office attracts a photocopy shop, it’s like that 😀 Go straight to this man because he’ll know what to photocopy. The photocopies cost us 10 baht/person
Then, go to the reception (a lady sitting next to a machine that gives tickets). She’ll give you the T7 form to fill out, and will then check that you have all the necessary documents. She’ll give you a ticket and as soon as your number is called, get 1900 baht in cash ready.
You’ll get another ticket, and you’ll be called to get your passport back. For us, it took 1h30 in total.
They didn’t even ask us for proof of residence or insurance… it’s super easy.
For info, our visa exemption was supposed to end on June 29, we extended our visa today on 17/06 and our visa will be valid again, until July 29.
