Digital Nomad: Our 2nd Airbnb in Montenegro (Budva)
After a month in Boka Bay (near Kotor) having to cook for ourselves (since the restaurants, mainly for tourists, close their doors in winter), I lost a few pounds. Granted, I still have some wiggle room, but at this rate, I’ll look like a bag of bones in a few months. JB and I decide to move to Budva, to be closer to local and open restaurants.
This Airbnb cost us €940 for 28 nights, that is, €33.6 per night, which is expensive for Montenegro but it’s pure luxury and two to three times cheaper than in high season. There are several supermarkets and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk. But in reality, we always take our car, to avoid crossing the freeway (we say freeway, but it’s just a 2-lane road with cars driving very fast) and to have more restaurant choices.
The apartment is in a hotel complex, which offers furnished and independent apartments, with some amenities available to all (pools, among others).
What’s funny about this apartment is that it perfectly illustrates the law of attraction. You have to be careful what you wish for, because it might come true 😀
We passed by this complex twice: once during a sunset and I thought “those who live in there must have a dream view, I’d love to have an apartment like that”. And the second time, seeing the guards, I thought it might be worth asking them if there was an apartment available. And then, I forgot.
While searching on Airbnb, JB came across this apartment, located exactly in the complex I had already spotted. But he didn’t know I wanted to rent an apartment there. Seeing the picture, I told him this story, he insisted I check the exact location. I told him “I know where it is, it’s just after the bridge” (I have a good memory and a sense of direction that any Koh Lanta contestant would have loved to have). It’s when we arrived that JB saw the famous bridge in question, he finally believed my story.
It goes to show, wishes, even if only expressed in thought, eventually become reality.

It’s a large one-bedroom, around 60m²? with a dream view of the Adriatic Sea from the living room and from the bedroom. The full moon reflecting on the too calm sea water is a dreamlike vision. I’ll let you discover all the rooms in the video below:
What I appreciate a lot (vs. the other Airbnb), is being able to FINALLY receive packages. Ahahahah. In Montenegro, many houses and apartments don’t have postal addresses and people are forced to pick up even their mail at a post office. There are many things we need but that aren’t sold in stores. It’s when you realize we are way too dependent on online shopping. In Montenegro, even with an address, postal workers don’t deliver packages. Only services like DHL or UPS deliver them to your door. Here, there are guards, the place is easily identifiable. The DHL delivery guy even called me on the phone to let me know he was coming. Super pro!
JB works a lot and we haven’t had time yet to explore the old town of Budva but it won’t be long. This weekend, we’re going to the mountains, where it’s covered in snow (travel map here). That’s the advantage of Montenegro: you can go from the beach to snowy peaks in just 2 hours. Can’t wait!
