How do I get a \”Frequent Traveller\” passport? (+ sample letter)
If you are like us digital nomads or if you are planning to go on a (very long) round-the-world trip, your 32-page passport will fill up quickly.
After 2 1/2 years of travel (1 year around the world and 18 months of digital nomadism), this is our case, there are only two pages left on our passport, impossible to leave for a tour with so little space available.
It is (almost) only for this reason that we return to France. What isn’t very pleasant is that a passport renewal immobilizes you for 4 to 6 weeks (from the filing of the file, and again, you must have managed to make an appointment).
There is an emergency procedure but it does not allow the delivery of biometric passports (impossible to go to the USA) and must be solidly motivated (professional, humanitarian, …).
No question for us to go through the emergency procedure.
What is a “frequent traveler” passport?
While preparing my file, I discovered that there was a “frequent traveler” passport
What is the difference between a classic passport and a “frequent traveller” passport? It has more pages!
A classic passport has 32 pages, a “frequent traveler” passport has 48 pages.
Even if you change country very regularly, it allows you to see what’s coming!
How to obtain a “frequent traveller” passport?
The procedure is strictly the same as the application for a regular passport:
- Make the pre-application for a passport on the ANTS website
- Pay the tax stamp online
- Make an appointment in a town hall (the one of your choice, it isn’t obligatory to choose the one of your residence)
- Go to the appointment with your file number, a proof of address and a passport photo.
The only difference? You must also bring a letter justifying your request for a frequent traveler passport.
Example of a letter of application for a “frequent traveler” passport
Unfortunately, there is no standard template for the application letter.
As I have written one, I am sharing it with you. Try not to use it as it is, but try to personalize it according to your context.

Edit March 2019 : We got back our passport (which was ready 15 days after the submission of the file). Good news: our application for a frequent traveler passport has been accepted, so we have a 48-page passport š
