In Colombia, the Uber application is prohibited. This does not prevent many people from using it, but while doing so, one might as well try to be within the law.

So I installed the Cabify application (ex Tapsy).

Cabify was created in Spain and is available in 38 cities in Spain, Portugal and many Latin American countries (Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, …).

It resembles in every way the standards of VTC applications: the application geolocates us, we indicate our destination address and we call a driver.

Cabify allows you to use 3 payment methods:

  • Credit card
  • PayPal
  • Cash

It is possible to use two different services:

  • Calling a driver, in which case the rate is indicated at the time of ordering.
  • Calling a cab, in which case the meter rate will apply.

On Cabify, it is possible to book a ride in advance, which can be very convenient if you need to get to the airport early, for example.

From a price viewpoint, they are very similar to what Uber offers. In this example, for the same trip, Cabify’s rate is 5,406COPvs
5,731 for Uber
.

There may be a surcharge when the service is in high demand.

On our first trip, as I was getting ready to get in the back seat, the driver asked me to get in the front passenger seat, a sign that there must be some tension with the cabs.

The driver’s Cabify application is directly interfaced with the Waze application, which guarantees an optimal route.

Bonus: Cabify is a carbon neutral company. Emissions are offset by projects to plant trees in the Amazon. The approach looks serious and not just marketing. It should be noted and encouraged.
