What is the value of a Marriott Bonvoy point?
When you sign up for the Marriott Bonvoy hotel chain’s loyalty program, you accumulate points for every euro spent.
There are other ways to earn points. For me, I convert my American Express Rewards points.
These Marriott points will then allow you to pay for all or part of a stay.
But what is the value of a Marriott Bonvoy point?
I did some calculations by simulating a one-night stay in Koh Samui, Thailand on July 21, 2022.
Here’s what it looks like.

If you pull out the calculator, here’s the result.
| Hotel | Price in € | Price in Marriott points | Value of 100 Marriott points |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vana Belle | 364 | 73 000 | 0,50 € |
| W | 451 | 70 400 | 0,64 € |
| Renaissance | 203 | 24 800 | 0,82 € |
| Sheraton | 211 | 21 000 | 1,00 € |
In this example, the value of 100 Marriott Bonvoy points varies from double to single: from 0.50 to €1.
So it’s worth doing this little calculation every time to decide whether you prefer to pay in Marriott points or save them for next time.
It’s also worth noting that in this example, converting American Express Rewards points to Marriott points is always profitable. Indeed, 100 Amex points are valued at €0.50, which is the minimum value Marriott offers.
For every euro spent during your stay, you’ll earn 10 Marriott points. From the table above, we can deduce that this represents a cashback of between 5 and 10%, which is rather generous. And even more so if you have a status that allows you to earn extra points. It ranges from a 10% bonus with Silver status to 75% (!!) with Ambassador Elite status. Well, you need to spend $20,000 a year to get that status. That’s not exactly a walk in the park 😀
