Lycamobile review: prepaid SIM card in France

Back for a big month in France and not wanting to switch my Free mobile subscription to the €20 plan, I’m on the lookout for a prepaid SIM card offer. Last time I had a Lebara SIM card which I was satisfied with. To try another solution, this time I opted for Lycamobile.

I ordered my SIM card online for free, with delivery to my mailbox within a few days.

It’s also possible to buy one at tobacconists, phone shops, or even in supermarkets, as I happened to see at the checkout of an Auchan.

Having ordered a free SIM card without credit, it’s completely useless when inserted into the phone.

I downloaded the app to buy credit.

I opted for a €10 plan that gives me for 30 days:

• 20 GB of internet
• Unlimited calls
• Unlimited texts
• And even roaming in Europe

Note that I couldn’t get the “new customer” rate that would have allowed me to get this plan for €4. I ordered my SIM card a good month before using it, which might explain it.

Prices are also very reasonable if you need a lot of internet. After an Orange outage at our place, I was able to buy 100 GB of internet for €25. With the SIM card in our pocket wifi, it worked perfectly.

Internet connection speed is very good (test performed on December 28, 2021, in Tours):

To check remaining internet credit, I couldn’t find any other way than using the app or logging into your customer account.

To top up, the simplest is also through the app.
