After a long day of sightseeing in Dubai, once you’re back at your hotel or Airbnb, the last thing you want to do is head out again for dinner. Especially since, depending on where you’re staying, it can be quite far from a restaurant or a grocery store. That’s probably why food and grocery delivery apps are so popular. Among them: Deliveroo!
If you already use the Deliveroo app in France, you’ll feel right at home. It’s the same app, and you won’t even need to create a new account.
The app is in French, which is really handy if you’re not too comfortable with English. The menu items will still be in English, but most of them come with a photo, so it’s not a problem.
Deliveroo offers:
- Delivery of meals prepared by restaurants
- Delivery of groceries from supermarkets (it’s great to get fruit delivered, for example)
The process is very simple: you sign up, enter your card details, your delivery address, choose your order, and off you go! The service is so efficient that you’ll rarely wait more than 30-45 minutes for your order to arrive.
Deliveroo shows a map that lets you track your delivery rider in real time. To make it more efficient, I told the rider in the address details to call me when they arrive so I can come down and pick up the order (it helps to have a local SIM card).
On top of your order total, Deliveroo will charge:
- A 3% service fee
- About 5 AED for delivery (depending on the distance from the restaurant)
Don’t forget to check the “offers” section, which has daily discounts of up to 50% on certain restaurants.
We used Deliveroo a lot during our stay in Dubai—it’s the food delivery app that seemed to offer the widest selection.
