[Review] MODIBODI Maxi-24hrs, Period Panties for Heavy Periods

You probably know my love for period panties and especially those from the brand Modibodi. I’ve talked about this here before.

Modibodi is an Australian brand, made in China. It offers period panties at very competitive prices, while having very high quality standards both in terms of absorption, comfort, and the chosen fabric.

The Maxi-24hrs Model

A few weeks ago, I received a newsletter announcing the arrival of a new model called Maxi-24hrs and hold on tight, it can hold up to the equivalent of 10 tampons! Never seen before, across all period panty brands.

I immediately ordered the models Maxi-24hrs Classic Bikini , and Sensual Hi Waist Bikini Maxi 24-hrs

Plus, this much more absorbent model doesn’t cost more than other models for 2 to 4 tampons. 28€ to 30€ per pair of panties to be at ease during my period? Count me in!

Packaging & Reception

As usual, the packaging is quite minimalist, I must say. Each pair of panties is placed in a cardboard envelope. The whole thing is sent in a bag compostable.

I ordered on October 2nd. For Europe, all packages ship from their warehouse in England, so there are no customs fees and shipping is very fast.
My package shipped on October 3rd and I received it on the 12th in Italy.

Size

I’ve bought panties from Modibodi before, so I know that XS (8) matches my size (French 36). You have to follow the sizing guide, too many French buyers buy panties 2 sizes too big because they only follow their own imagination. The panties are quite stretchy, so they hug the body well, without being too tight (no one likes to feel squeezed in their clothes during their period, right).

I’ll still give you the precise measurements below for both models in case you have any doubts. Anyway, I always recommend ordering a panties from them, getting a refund if it’s not the right size/if you’re not satisfied (for your first order, you have 30 days to get a refund), before you go all in on buying a full set.

Comfort

For a pair of underwear capable of holding the equivalent of 10 tampons, the absorbent part is extremely but extremely thin !!

Compared to my 3-4 tampon underwear, this one is barely thicker (we’re maybe at 3.5 millimeters instead of 3), but still thinner than a standard sanitary pad, you forget it’s there very, very quickly.

Plus, the part in contact with your skin is made of merino wool, it’s super soft, no itching at all! Merino wool never itches.

Absorption

It sounds silly, but I was so excited to get my period just to try them.

I have heavy periods the first days of my cycle. And when I say heavy, I mean: (1) getting up early or in the middle of the night to change pads (2) stained sheets or clothes regularly (3) stomach pain, I’m wiped out on day 1 of my period

Until now, I was using the 3-4 tampon equivalent underwear from Modibodi, but I had to change them midday because they were full, but with the Maxi-24hrs, they lasted the whole day, yes THE WHOLE DAY!

Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s the state of the underwear at 12pm, 3pm, and 8pm (click) (warning: watch out for your eyes, especially if you’re on a smartphone). Knowing that I put them on at 9:30am. You can see the blood is well absorbed, sure the mucus membranes are absorbed slower (period blood isn’t just blood, as you well know), but everything ends up completely absorbed. You can still see a small damp halo, but it’s not uncomfortable. With sanitary pads, the damp feeling is much more noticeable than that.

I think if I wanted to, I could wear them until I go to bed. But hey, I do like to change after a long day, especially on day 1 of my period.

For nighttime, zero leakage issues because the underwear goes up very, very high, both in the front (below the belly button) and the back (up to the top of the buttocks). This is the first time I’ve seen underwear that covers up to below the belly button, which is excellent news for those who like to sleep on their stomachs! Only the hips aren’t covered by the absorbent part, actually 😀

I won’t take any photos of the model Sensual Hi Waist Bikini Maxi 24-hrs because it’s the same. The elastic at the waist is just replaced with lace, that’s all.

Odor

Since the underwear is far from full, there’s no odor to report. I have no idea how they did it, but it’s truly impressive!

Conclusion

Finally, a real pair of underwear for heavy periods that lasts all day. It’s a real liberation: no more changing at work, no more buying a dozen pairs.
With this model, it’s simple: 2 pairs a day are enough. Modibodi offers packs of 5, which will cover your entire period.

Personally, instead of having a whole wardrobe of underwear: heavy models, moderate period, light period, etc., I’m going to switch 100% to the Maxi-24hrs model now. That way, I have fewer pairs and can travel lighter.

Because the thickness, from one absorption level to another, isn’t that different (we’re talking millimeters). The fact that the absorbent area goes up very high, even when I have a light period, doesn’t bother me one bit, because it’s just that comfortable.
