My review of Cursor CLI

When I complained about the lack of tokens, a colleague of JB (thanks N.!!!) suggested I use Cursor alongside Claude Code/Codex to make up for the shortage. I found a referral link online and only paid $12 for the first month to test it (instead of $20, Pro account).

The advantage of Cursor is that it has a limit monthly (no 5-hour or weekly limits like the others). For my needs, I find it great, it lets you vibe-code continuously without being interrupted by the token limit. It’s so efficient that with Cursor, I run out of projects and had to take long AI breaks 😀

You can also use it as a backup plan aka I can start a project on Claude and finish it on Cursor.

The “auto” mode lets the AI auto-select the model compatible with the requested task, and it saves a lot of tokens.

Then, we have $20 in credit to select “other models” than Cursor. I use Claude when I need to run translations. $20 really isn’t much though, barely 34.8 M tokens.

I find the harness pleasant to use, it doesn’t over-explain, and communicates efficiently. I find it understands me better than the latest Claude Code models. It’s very fast compared to Codex and Claude Code, and you can also throw in lots of prompts, which stay pending until the last prompt finishes executing, or immediately override the current prompt.

I used Cursor to finish creating my software and I found it handled things very smoothly. There were several bugs in the software when it had just come out of Codex, and Cursor fixed them without any problem.

Then, for translation tasks, the Grok model isn’t precise enough yet. Despite very precise instructions, it keeps translating “word for word”. So I lose many more tokens auditing the translation.

Anyway, I’m quite surprised I lasted the whole month, without frustrations, with only a Pro account. My friend who is a professional dev, settles for the Ultra offer at $200/month and that’s more than enough for him.

Plus, I don’t know where it comes from, but in one month, I got 2 extra $20 credits to use on API, just like that, valid on Cursor Grok & Composer.

And at the end of the month, they told me I had used the equivalent of $346 in API. Anyway, I find it all very obscure but it shows in terms of efficiency, I was able to do lots of things and rest more thanks to this limit monthly. Even the small $20 subscription is worth it.
