Temazcal Purification Ceremony in Oaxaca (Mexico): Our Impressions

When I asked about Oaxaca, several people told me about the Temazcal ceremony before concluding: visiting Oaxaca without participating in a Temazcal ceremony is like not having been there. It’s like going to Japan without going to the onsen. It’s a ceremony that is well known to the indigenous people, and since we are in the state of Oaxaca, where many indigenous people still live, the probability of finding one is higher. So we contacted ASAP one of the best places on the outskirts of Oaxaca: CEVIAREM TEMAZCAL OAXACA to book a private session for two. The session lasts more or less an hour and costs 1700MXN for two (I…

Hierve el Agua, Dyeing courses in Teotitlan, Tlacolula Market & l’Arbre del Tule – Surroundings of Oaxaca #1 (Mexico)

There are 2 popular towers in the surroundings of Oaxaca: on the Hierve el Agua side and on the Monte Alban side. But for the tour Hierve el Agua + Teotitlan + Tule, we decide to go there by ourselves by bus & colectivo to be able to spend more time at each stop. The agencies cover almost the same route (except the Tlacolula market) in a single day. But we will take 2.5 days hiihihi. For practical advices, prices & bus departure places, please go to the Practical Advice section at the bottom of the article Part 1: Travel Diary Part 2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Just…

Convivio: a co-working in Oaxaca (Mexico) with a Wi-Fi at the top!

After almost 6 months of traveling across America (outside Canada and the USA) and juggling between Wifi, mobile connections and other phone solutions, the logistics of the job are starting to weigh me down. As you know (or not), we prefer to work in our home. That’s why we carefully choose our Airbnb to have an acceptable working space and try to get information about the speed of the internet connection. We were quite confident when we arrived in our accommodation in Oaxaca because the owner had been able to answer us: 30 Mb / s which is much better than what we are used to. Weary, we discover an…

[Travel Guide 2020] 15 days of Roadtrip by Bus in Yucatán (Mexico): Itinerary, Budget, Transportation, Practical Advice

Here is the recommended itinerary for a 2 week road trip in Mexico. At the beginning, we wanted to rent a car but the destinations we are targeting are very well served by buses and colectivos, so we preferred to use them to travel in a more economical way. This itinerary is part of our +2 month stay in Central America. To optimize the cost, we land in Merida (instead of Cancun, the classic arrival city from France) from San Salvador (El Salvador), then we will have our luggage kept in a hotel for 2 weeks (hence one night in Merida, to justify leaving our luggage in the l uggage…

Road trip in Mexico #8: Campeche, Ruins of Uxmal & Merida

After Palenque, we must visit the ruins of Uxmal and finish the roadtrip in beauty in a luxury hotel, vintage style. But I hesitated a lot between a direct trip from Palenque to Merida (8:30 am) and then visit Uxmal the next day, or take a short break in Campeche. Finally, to spend less time in transportation, I decided to cut the path in two and spend a night in Campeche. Note: this article is part of the 17-day roadtrip series in Mexico. Go to previous articles: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7 Part 1: Travel Diary Part 2: Practical Tips Part…

Schedules of the second class bus from Uxmal to Campeche (Mexico)

Few people know it, but there is a second class bus from Uxmal to Campeche with regular schedules. This allows you to get to Uxmal, continue on your way to Campeche, instead of going back to Merida and taking another bus to Campeche. You can leave your luggage in the trunk but you have to open it and collect your luggage yourself (but tell the driver that you are going to open it anyway, otherwise he might leave). Just wave and say “maleta”, he will understand. This bus is a second class bus and stops at all the small villages on the way. Duration: 3h to 3h30 (it depends on…
