At 8:00 am, we take the car leaving all our stuff at the cottage and JB is instructed to take his bathing suit & a towel. As for me, I already wear a bathing suit under my clothes. We follow the GPS and when we…

[Road trip in Iceland] Day 4: Black sand beaches, Svartifoss waterfall, grass church

Today, the program is rather light so we allow ourselves to make a little sleep-in before taking again the road. Our guesthouse does not propose breakfast so we lost moreover time to make omelets, sandwiches of all kinds (including sardines that we brought back from Portugal!) … It is thus only at 10 am that we take the road, in direction of the famous black sand beach Reynisfjara, which we saw from above yesterday Previous episodes : Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Itinerary – day 4 To open this map on Google Maps, click here Stop 1 :…

SIM Card Free Mobile in Iceland: 3G or 4G? Internet speed ?

For more information about using the Free Mobile plan abroad, please click here. On a road trip in Iceland, I use my Free Mobile SIM card. The roaming passes by the operator Nova. I am pleasantly surprised by the network coverage. The population density is very low in Iceland that I expected to be often without network. That indeed happens when we are in the middle of nowhere but on short periods. From a speed viewpoint, we are on 4G+ with a very good download speed and a very correct upload speed (see screenshot). The speed test below dates from April 8, 2019, test realized in a place in the…

Fuel in Iceland: how does it work? How much does it cost? Petrol or diesel?

If like us, you rent a car to go around the island, there is one rather unpleasant thing you will do regularly: buy fuel. There isn’thing very complicated but here are some points to know to make your stay easier. What type of fuel? In Iceland, there is petrol (SP 95) or diesel. I don’t think you have a choice when you rent your car, we came across a petrol car. There is no risk of making a mistake, the type of fuel is very clearly specified on the tank door. Gas stations in Iceland N1, Olis, Orkan, OB, … There are several station networks in Iceland. The gas stations…

[Road trip in Iceland] Day 3: Waterfalls, swimming pool and a lot of wind

Previous episodes : Day 1, Day 2 Today, we get up again at 8am. In spite of the clear sky last night, there were no aurora borealis, too bad, we may see them another day. At Julia’s Guesthouse(link Booking) we are served a super hearty breakfast, with eggs from the farm, homemade bread etc. It’s luxurious. We are accompanied by the birds, who are very interested in JB’s plate, and the cat, who comes to get some petting. It looks like we are at home, but better. I really like this guesthouse very much! We put nevertheless 1 hour to have breakfast, prepare the thermos, pack our bags and it…

    Stopover in Paris (France)

That’s it, we are back in Paris, after our long stay in Haute-Normandie with our cat Rosalie. Even if we love our cat very much, our return to France wasn’t only to bring her on vacation, our passports being archi-full, we planned to stay there for a month (we planned wide) in order to redo them and apply for a Frequent Traveler Passport (more info here), and do a health check-up before flying to America, where our social security is useless 😀 Between Haute-Normandie and Iceland, there is an essential stopover: Paris. First, to deposit our cat at my sister’s, then, to take the plane for Iceland. During the 3…

Free Mobile SIM card in Germany: 3G or 4G? Internet speed ?

For more information about using the Free Mobile plan abroad, please click here. On a stopover in Germany before going to Iceland, I take the opportunity to test the connection with Free Mobile. I am connected with the operator Vodafone DE. At one point I was also connected via the operator O2 I read that Free Mobile had activated 4G in Germany, but I only got H+ (between 3G and 4G). The connection is good without being exceptional: 12 mo / s for download and 4 mo / s for upload. Test conducted at Frankfurt airport on April 4, 2019.
