Transfer photos from your SD card to an iPad or iPhone using an adapter
Currently in Miami, we are about to leave for 15 days of road trip by car throughout Florida.
We will never sleep two nights in a row in the same place and we didn’t see ourselves leaving all our computer equipment in the car for 15 days. We thus decided to leave it in a locker in Miami.
We wondered how to store the photos and videos that we were going to take because we are sure-equipped: a drone, a camera and a waterproof camera
There is a very simple solution, an SD card adapter that allows you to download the contents of an SD card to an iPhone or iPad.
There is an official Apple adapter, the “Lightning to SD card reader adapter”. Like all adapters it costs an arm: 35 € for a small piece of plastic.
So I chose an alternative found on Amazon which cost me 13 dollars or about 11.5 €(amazon link)
If you prefer the official adapter, here it is: amazon link.
The adapter is very small and comes with an adapter to handle the micro SD format.
The use is simplistic, just insert the SD card into the adapter, plug it to your iPad or iPhone.
An import window opens automatically and offers you to import photos and videos into the photo library

Once this is done, you can choose to delete the files from the SD card.

You can synchronize the files in the cloud, either using iCloud or using Google Photos.
Details to know: the adapter allows you to transfer files from the SD card to the iPad or iPhone. However, the reverse isn’t possible.
This can also help you if you are on a trip around the world and have decided to leave your computer + external hard drive at home.
