Review: Finding the scent of your dreams at Nose Paris

It’s me again, still talking about perfumes (seems to be the theme of the month). After discovering two truly incredible fragrances (read this article , and this one), I got more interested in niche perfumes and one name keeps popping up: NOSE PARIS.

It’s a boutique created by several perfumers (“noses”) and they have a store in Paris and an e-commerce site. Since I already left for Upper Normandy for a month of vacation, I settled for placing an order online.

The pitch: it’s THE place to find the scent of your dreams thanks to a high-tech perfume diagnostic developed by artificial intelligence experts and renowned perfumers.

Based on the articles I’ve read online, the in-store experience is pretty similar to the process online – meaning the sellers also rely on the software in place to advise customers – so why not just do everything online?

Step 1

First, you need to create an account on the site

You have to list the perfumes you’ve worn, the ones you’re currently wearing… If you’ve never worn perfume, there’s a checkbox for that if needed. The list isn’t exhaustive, but it still includes quite a few perfumes (9000!!).

Step 3

The tool instantly gives me the list of notes I like, based on the list of my perfumes.

Step 4

Then, I get access to the list of perfumes – sold on the site – for which I’m offered to buy samples for €10 (€10 for 5 samples). Shipping isn’t very expensive (€1.5 from memory for tracked letter – because I ordered less than 15 samples)

Step 5

A few days later, I receive my sample kit (+ the samples I ordered extra) at home, with the papers to do the test, like at a perfume store. What I like is that the samples are in spray form, very practical.

Step 6

I then receive an email inviting me to rate the perfumes I received.

Once I’m done rating the perfumes, a new diagnostic and a list of 5 other perfumes are offered to me and I can buy a new sample kit for €10.

And the €10 I spent on samples will be refunded in the form of a purchase code.

I find their diagnostic pretty good because out of the 5 samples received, 2 appealed to me. Having samples, being able to test them on your skin, evaluating the different notes of the perfume… helps a lot in choosing the perfume that suits your skin best.

I think I still need another sample kit to find the scent of my dreams. I chose to stop here because the perfumes offered are quite expensive, and I already have enough stock for the next few months.

The pros: very simple process, fast shipping and cheap delivery. I really like the sample format (with spray). The €10 discount code too. You can order samples of other perfumes (even those not in the 5 recommendations, for €3/sample. It’s very advantageous, especially for the perfume extracts sold on the site)

The -: since the diagnostic is based on what you like, it’s hard to aim for anything other than the ingredients and types of perfumes you like. For someone wanting to radically change their perfume, I don’t think you’d know where to start with this tool. The referral program only benefits the referrers, not the referees.
