Uber alternatives in Pristina (Kosovo)

The Uber app—and all its equivalents for hailing a ride or a taxi—has made travelers’ lives significantly easier.

In Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, taxis are plentiful and cheap. There’s even a taxi company whose fleet consists solely of Tesla vehicles! It was in Kosovo that we rode in a Tesla for the first time, bizarre!

To call a taxi, you need to call a company. A taxi will arrive within minutes, but it’s not very convenient if you don’t speak the language. Even if the person on the other end speaks English, street names are hard for us to pronounce.

Uber doesn’t exist in Kosovo, so I found an alternative: Blue Taxi. This company has an Android and iOS app.

The app is in English, and all you have to do is verify your phone number to sign up.

There’s no option to save a credit card, so you’ll have to pay in cash.

The fields for entering your pickup and destination addresses aren’t very user-friendly. For the pickup address, I simply use the geolocation button. The destination address is optional when ordering a taxi; just show the driver on Google Maps where you want to go.

Once you’ve ordered, the app shows the estimated arrival time and the car’s license plate so you can easily identify it when it arrives.

Taxis in Kosovo have a meter (visible near the rearview mirror). I never had to ask them to turn it on—no unpleasant surprises. The meter starts at 2 euros. For trips within Pristina, the fare shouldn’t exceed 4 euros.

Thus, the Blue Taxi app is an excellent alternative to Uber in Pristina!
