Days 1 & 2 in New York City (USA): Times Square, Katz’s Delicatessen, NYC Library, Shopping
Our stay in the United States continues with a week’s vacation in New York City. A real vacation, without working, to fully enjoy this beautiful city of a thousand facets. We have to take a bus(Flixbus) between Washington DC and NYC, but the bus is 45 minutes late. Add to that the traffic in NYC and we arrived 2 hours late compared to the scheduled time. Fortunately our Airbnb hostess was able to wait for us during all this time there. Our room looks like a large closet. We share the bathroom with the owner. Everything has its place because it’s so small. I think the whole apartment (including the…

We spent the 4th of July in Washington (USA) – Travel Diary
After 2.5 months in Canada that lasted an eternity (not fun when you just go to the dentist), here we are in the United States. First stop: Washington DC (which we will call Washington for short in the article) 😉 After spending Canaday Day (July 1) in Ottawa, we would like to travel to the United States to experienceIndependence Day (July 4) in Washington. We were warned about US immigration which can be very fussy but in the end everything went well (I will tell you in detail in another article). Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Chinatown Our hotel(Pod Hotel, Booking link) is rather…

Prepaid 4G SIM card in the United States: How much does it cost? Where to buy it? What speed?
If you want to be able to use the internet, send SMS and make calls during your stay in the USA, you will need a SIM card. Here are the different solutions available to you. Having a Free Mobile subscription, we did not use local SIM cards. This article presents the offers that we discovered on the spot but we did not test them. Buy a SIM card on Amazon If you don’t want to bother, it is possible to buy a SIM card on Amazon before you leave. The offer which seems to me the most interesting is that of Most SIM(Amazon link) which uses the T-Mobile network. You…

Free Mobile SIM card in the United States: 3G or 4G? Internet speed ?
For more information about using the Free Mobile plan abroad, please click here. In Washington then in New York, and soon in Miami, we use our Free SIM card to have internet on our smartphone. We are connected by roaming via the AT&T operator. The speed is good, without being unbelievable, we are on 18 Mb/s when going down and 13 Mb/s when going up, which will largely do the job. This test was carried out on July 6, 2019 in New York.

Trottinettes: test & review by Lime (+ promo code 10 €)
To benefit from a sponsorship and thus receive 10 € of credit, you can use the promo code RGJAI4 (attention, before the 4, it is an i, not a 1 😉 ) While we had experienced Hive in Lisbon, we find that in the United States, Lime is the one who isn’t to be missed. It must be said that the giant Uber is a shareholder of Lime, which thus has very substantial financial resources to set out to conquer the world. Result: Lime is (as of July 2019) present in many cities in 26 countries including the United States, France, Australia, Colombia, Mexico, Singapore, … The operation is quite…

A day in Ottawa (Canada): Canada Day, Canadian National Day, July 1st
From Montreal, we take the bus to Ottawa, where we spend CanadaDay. Everyone tells us that this city isn’t as beautiful as the others in Quebec, it’s true, but spending a day in Ottawa, on July 1st, is highly recommended. We start with one of the most visited places: the National War Memorial. It is here that we are in the full tourist center, with a lot of things to visit. As we are on July 1st, the roads are pedestrian, it is very pleasant. Here is the Chateau Laurier, now a luxury hotel. Its magical side reminds us of the luxury castle in Quebec City Rideau Canal & Locks…

A day in Quebec City (Canada)
During our 3-day roadtrip in the Quebec region, we were so tired that we had to zap Quebec City. We decided to come back there to attend their Quebec Day on June 24th. Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Bus tickets being bought online, we leave from the bus station in Montreal and arrive at the (beautiful) train station in Quebec City. For info, we chose the Orleans Express company, on time and comfortable. Note: the entire region is called Quebec City (e.g. Montreal is part of Quebec). But the city is called Quebec City. Saint-Jean Street JB chose our Airbnb very well. It is…

[road trip] A day at Mont-Tremblant National Park (Canada)
After 2 days in the Eastern Townships, we continue on our way to spend the 3rd day of the extended weekend at Mont-Tremblant National Park. This park is so large that despite its proximity to Montreal (1h30 drive), we can easily camp there and spend several days. Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary We still have the car rented at Avis (link, 40$CA/day), the weather is splendid and there are fortunately not too many people on the road because it’s Sunday. We arrive at the town of Mont-Tremblant, on the shores of Lake Mont-Tremblant. It’s a ski resort so it has faux-airs of Chamonix, with…

[road trip] Two days in the Eastern Townships (Canada): Foresta Lumina, Mont-Orford, Saint-Benoît du Lac, North Hatley
This weekend, we are again renting a car from Avis (link, 40$CA per day) to visit the surroundings of Montreal, namely the Eastern Townships, which are very close to the border with the United States. Part 1: Travel Diary Part2: Practical Tips Part 1: Travel Diary Day 1 Wave to Guy This wave isn’t in the Eastern Townships but since it is on the way, we take advantage of having the car to get there. On Google maps, the road that passes in front of it is a Boulevard, but in reality, it is a nice little road and we can park there without any problem (during the week anyway).…
