When traveling, you may need to store this luggage somewhere. The most classic case is certainly the few hours of waiting before / after a checkin / checkout in a hotel / airbnb.

Our case is a little different: as a digital nomad, we live with our two suitcases and two small backpacks weighing a total of about 40 kilos.

It’s both little (this is our business all year round) and a lot when we go on a road trip during which we change location every day.

There are three main solutions for storing luggage:

We used Vertoe ‘s dedicated deposit services during our road trip to Florida.
Hotel luggage services that can be arranged. The Hilton hotel agreed to keep our luggage for 15 days whereas we only stayed there one night during our road trip in Mexico.

The principle

Nannybag is a competing service to that of Vertoe

The principle is clever: Nannybag has partnerships with hotels, stores and even private individuals who have storage space to which you can entrust your luggage. Very practical because many hotels are accessible 7 days / 7 and 24h / 24.

The luggage you entrust is sealed to ensure that it will not be opened during your absence and is insured (see below).

Nannybag offers 2500 storage spaces in 250 cities in 25 cities. Mostly in Europe and North America. Not at all in South America, not at all in Africa and only one country in Asia (Thailand). Let’s hope that this will develop because this type of service is very convenient.

The tariff

Pricing is very simple and identical in all countries (with very slight differences due to exchange rates): 6 € per piece of luggage for 24 hours and 4 € the following days. There is no weight or size limit.

The pricing at competitor Vertoe is very slightly different: €5.95 per day. With a discount of 15% for a week and 30% for a month.

By doing a simulation for 15 days of storage in Miami (as in the case of our road trip to Florida), we arrive at :

64.74 for Vertoe
62 for Nannybag

Very slight advantage for Nannybag but we feel that both services have copied their prices 🙂

Insurance

It is very convenient to entrust our luggage but what if it is lost / stolen / damaged?

First good point for Nannybag, it is a French company unlike Vertoe which is a French company based in the American state of Delaware (which is a tax haven). It will probably be easier to find a contact person at Nannybag in case of problems.

Second good point, your luggage is insured by Axa up to €1000 per bag (with a €100 deductible). The insurance information leaflet detailing the conditions is available on the website. It’s square, it’s serious.

However, I find that the sum insured is quite low and very quickly exceeded if you plan to store some computer equipment.

It has the merit to exist but it is rather weak. My only computer that I entrust to the locker room far exceeds this amount.

Vertoe, on the other hand, has a $5,000 coverage without further details. It is an amount which corresponds more or less to the coverage I want but I can’t find the conditions of application of this insurance…

My opinion on Nannybag

As mentioned in the preamble I have not (yet) tested the services of Nannybag but the experience seems very similar to the one I had with Vertoe.

The prices are almost identical, so the question of choosing between Vertoe and Nannybag is mainly a matter of the presence of the service in the area where you are and the location and times of the storage location that suits you

At an equivalent location, I would probably prefer Nannybag to Vertoe because the conditions of application of the insurance are much more transparent (and because it is a French company, cock-a-doodle-doo 🙂 ).

If I had one piece of advice: it would be to be able to increase the level of insurance coverage (even if it means paying for an additional option). To date, this is my only reluctance to use their services
