[review] FOREO LUNA Play Plus: Before/After Photos 6 Months of Use

You know my love for cleansing brushes. I had a regular Clarisonic Mia 2, and then I traded it in for a Clarisonic Mia Fit for travel. I really like Clarisonics, but it has become harder and harder to find replacement brush heads, especially since Sephora France no longer carries them at all.

So I decided to switch to a Foreo Luna Play Plus. The advantage of all Foreo facial brushes is that they don’t require any additional purchases or accessories.

What is the Foreo?

Foreo offers cleansing brushes for the face (and neck) made of silicone soft. The T-Sonic™ pulsations are delivered through soft silicone nubs to gently unclog your pores and remove up to 99.5% of impurities, excess sebum, dead skin cells, and makeup residue. The idea is that it vibrates so rapidly that impurities are mechanically pushed out of the pores.

What’s the advantage vs. Clarisonics?

It’s pretty much the same principle as Clarisonics, except here there are no brushes with bristles, but very soft silicone nubs. You don’t need to replace the brush head every 3 months. With this brushless design, cleansing is gentler and suited for sensitive skin.

Another advantage is that you don’t need to change brush heads.

And finally, the battery lasts much longer than Clarisonics (several months vs. one month for the Clarisonic Mia Fit).

Why should you use a cleansing brush?

My favorite esthetician and I agree on one thing: I can’t properly cleanse my skin with just my hands.And since introducing a cleansing brush into my routine, she has noticed, as have I, that there are far fewer blackheads and sebaceous filaments on my nose.

I see a noticeable difference when I use a brush, or not, especially in polluted countries.Double cleansing isn’t enough to remove tiny dust and pollution particles, and when I don’t use the brush in polluted countries, I consistently get a pimple the next day.

Which Foreo should you choose?

There are tons of models, some have a massage mode, others don’t. You can adjust the vibration intensity or not. The newest model is even connected to an app, letting you follow a live massage tutorial, etc. I find that compared to the primary function needed, it’s way too expensive.The feedback I’ve gotten on the massage features of the device isn’t unanimous. Plus, the standard devices seem way too big for me.

So I chose the smallest one, without any charger: the Foreo Luna Play Plus.

Initially, Foreo launched the Luna Play: a disposable device.The idea behind this device was to make people want to try Foreo and upgrade to a more expensive version. But users loved this mini version so much, and criticized the non-eco-friendly disposable aspect, that the brand released a model with a replaceable battery : Luna Play Plus.

Attention: you need to choose the Luna Play Plus version and not just the Luna Play. The Luna Play is non-rechargeable, it’s meant to be thrown away after the battery dies. But the battery of the Luna Play Plus can be replaced.

Inside the plastic shell of every Foreo, you’ll find a small magnetic tab shaped like a Foreo with a number on it. Everyone scoured the internet to figure out what it was for, haha, whether you should keep it, but actually, it’s just the specific machine number for the warranty 😀 You can simply take a photo of it.

Pros

Its size and feather-light weight
It cleans the skin perfectly well

Price: €49, no extra brush to buy, honestly it’s a good deal
Made of silicone that dries quickly and is non-porous, preventing bacteria buildup
Up to 35x more hygienic than traditional nylon brushes
Can be used in the shower without any issues
Top battery life: It runs on an AAA battery, I thought I’d struggle to open it, but actually, with a Swiss Army knife, I can easily remove the screws and put in a new battery.
The battery lasted me 6 months for daily use (once a day). The brand claims 400 uses (more than a year), but since I left it vibrating for hours by mistake, the battery only lasted 6 months 😀

The Cons –

There’s No timer Meaning the brush vibrates when you turn it on (button to press on the back) but doesn’t stop by itself. It doesn’t alert you, like the bigger brushes, every 10 or 20 seconds… to move to a new area. So you have to count on your own and move to a different area of the face. Ideally, spend 1 minute on the face. You also have to stop it manually.
There are 2 zones: one with finer nubs for sensitive/normal skin on larger areas like cheeks or forehead, and the other with thicker nubs for deep, targeted cleaning on areas like the T-zone. In reality, the brush is so small it’s hard to use just one zone. I apply the whole brush to my face and don’t know exactly which zone is cleaning my skin.
Vibrations are less intense than Clarisonics, so the cleanser foams less with Foreo. To get more foam, I put the cleanser directly on the Foreo, then I run it over my wet skin
The two screws to access the battery oxidize fairly quickly. You can use it in the shower, but only if you don’t leave it sitting in a puddle of water permanently (basically, not next to shampoos, soaps…). Generally, I put it on the sink.
You must travel with its little plastic case (which I unfortunately lost). Because it started vibrating on its own during travel (and doesn’t stop by itself), the battery drained in a few hours
Once you change the battery, the device is no longer waterproof at all, despite my attempts to seal it properly with the screws. So after a year, all three Foreo Luna Play Plus devices I bought gave up the ghost. At this rate, it’s better to buy the version above, Luna Mini 3.

Results (Before/After Photos)

I’d be lying if I said these results, obtained after 6 months, are only due to Foreo (I had some facials, introduced other products like The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide, 1% Zinc).

But it helped a lot, among other things, to eliminate pimples and exfoliate. And if there are no more pimples = no more new spots. Well-exfoliated skin = spots fade.
